Hi Folks!

Testing the posting of an Army Photo

P.S. I have tried this twice and both times, it didn't work.
I like this part were we can get back in and edit our post.

It took three tries to get it right!

Thanks Cold Steel. That extra dot was the hole problem.
Now that I understand how to link photos over at the US Army Image site to this site, I have to work on posting photos that I have scaned into my PC.

I tried hot-linking as an "image" and that didn't work either. Possibilities include: They don't allow hot-linking or....their site is down at the moment. I didn't see any problem with the syntax of your file name, but it's always worth rechecking.

Try hotlinking something else just to make sure you got the process down. You can press the "pic" tab above to insert or just put the usual [img.]http:whatever, blah-blah-blag.jpg[/img.] (without those dots in the brackets) to get an image up here.

might be a bit large actually. You need to embed the link in the image [img] tags. In the post form there are two rows of buttons, second row far left there is a button that will do it for you (if you have java script enabled in your browser). There was also a stray dot in you link Smile

Thanks, Coldsteel...it was the stray dot what done it....I missed that. See, the forum's working just like it oughta'...got each other's back!

I got the gallery thing down, but still gotta figure out post photos.

Wouldn't be the same if I couldn't throw in an obscure trivia photo,....or a 'Pig' photo every now and then.

It really isn't, Jim. It's just like hotlinking at the other forum, in principle. Pics can't be "posted" directly here (meaning stored on the server like a text messge). You just have to use the command syntax (or have the little box in that icon list above that looks like a mountain with a sun above it do it for you). So that you get something that WOULD look like this:

[img]YourPictureLinkedURLHere[/img] where "YourPictureLinkedURLHere" would be something like: www.JimWebstersHostingTank1.jpg

This is the standard command line syntax across virtually all boards on the net these days. Once you get it, it'll wil work for you most places, in fact.

Not a problem Doug, I'm happy to be of some use. This forum software seems to be quite widely used (although this version has a few bits I've not seen before), so I hope most people will be able to get to grips with the basics.

Thanks once again for helping to set this up away from the casino-spam-bots-of-doom.
