Definitely looks like eastern N.C.....(or parts of Ft. Jackson, S.C., or that matter). Squishy, sandy pine forests. Thank God I did basic in winter!

Aux fuel tanks on the early M3 Stuarts was a common item. Their range was not that great.

Aux fuel tanks on the early M3 Stuarts was a common item.

Without trying to be too picky (but I can't seem to help it!) these are M3A1s. Welded sponsons, no sponson MG ports, definietly M3A1s.
