I'm stuck...

I downloaded Kirk Olsson's F-86 Sabrejet and the install is unlike anything I've seen before..it spooks me. Default is to create a folder called "Flight Simulator 9" and as it happens, I've already got one of those Rolling Eyes . And when unzipped, it contains an installer that wants to do this. So, I "installed" it in an innocuous folder where it could do no harm. Within that "FS9" folder is an "aircraft", "effects", and "gauges" folders...(and a couple of other things I don't recognize). Within "aircraft" are two GMax folders...F-86 and F-86A. This is not what I recognize as a normal aircraft install and I'm loath to put any of this in my FS9 aircraft folder until I know what's up with this.

Anybody got any experience with this bird? I got it at www.flightsim.com

If you can offer PRECISE installation instructions, I'd sure 'preciate it....

I downloaded it, opened the ZIP and ran the self-installer that was in the ZIP - I remember some other things in there but they weren't needed.

Will see if I can getya some instro's for it ASAP.....

Yeah, so did I...til it got to the window that said I "have a folder called Flight Simulator 9", do you want to replace it? Heck no!

Tried several times, but the installer didn't seem compatible unless you were willing to create another FS9 folder...and I wasn't.

I "installed" in a download folder, but the way the aircraft folder was constructed, I didn't want to just copy them over into the "aircraft" section of FS9...

The install tells you that the FS9 folder already exists, and asks if you want to install there anyway. I said yes, and everything installed fine. Just flew the plane... a little hard to land. The two GMAX folders are actually the two different models folders, just like any other aircraft folder. Go ahead and install it with the installer, no worries.

There are two types of the F-86 Sabre on with wing slats and one without,

he just happened to call 'm gmaxf86 and gmaxf86a, probably because he built 'm with gmax.

For thew installer if you don't trust it or are in doubt that the thigy does what you want , then create a folder and point the installer to that particular folder and install, then you will see all the stuff that's going to be installed. if it's ok then point the installer to your main fs9 folder and change is that all works as should, if still doubting that, then used the files you installed to the by you specified folder and install manually.

Also there are some extra paintjobs out for it at www.avsim.com , www.flightsim.com and www.simviation.com

just went and downloaded it from the same source (flightsim) so have the same file you have, and installed it on a second system. Works like this:

- Open the ZIP file ("sabrejet.zip") and run the install prgram called "sabrejet setup.exe"

- Hit NEXT at the welcome screen

- Accept the license agreement

- Read he instructions if you want to, then click NEXT

- Your default FS9 folder will be shown, click NEXT

- You'll get a pop up that says:

Code:
The folder:
"
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

already exists. Would you like to install to that folder anyway?

YES / NO

Notice it's not saying it's going to create a new one, it's acknowlodging that the folder was found. IF it tried to create a duplicate folder with the same name, the operation would fail anyway because that's not allowed.

- Select YES

- Next is the startup folder option, I checked the option for "Don't create a Start Menu folder"

- Next is the option to "Click Install to continue with the installation, Back if you want to review or change any settings

Code:
Destination location:

  C:Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

- Click INSTALL

- When done click FINISH

Fly!

All my stuff is intact after doing this on to different systems now - no worries!

Yep, I got 'er done...it took two tries using the default autoinstall to get the aircraft to show in my FS9 aircraft selection, but show they eventually did.

Better than it was in it's first release long ago...

Thanks, Guys!
