Back when we had Centurions we were at Vogelsang doing troop training; part of which involved doing an advance to contact on the Sqn Ldrs tank. Anyway we set off on the run but failed to notice that on the first crest the main armament barrel dipped a little to low and scooped up a load of mud. A little later when we got near we went thru the usual contact procdeure - the loader loaded a blank I took a rough aim and fired the main armament.. to our horror the gun recoiled and a blackened shellcase popped out at which point everyone looked through their various sights just in time to see this dried mud projectile impact on the front of the Sqn Ldrs tank and shower them all with dirt....
