Hmmm. Well, I installed Chu Lai per the readme (deleting the four files from the scenery directory that had "FS2002" in their filenames) and still was able to spawn at DaNang. Then I slewed down to ChuLai (LARGE complex!!) and then slewed back up to DaNang.

I then renamed the AP file and still have no problems. Now I've deleted that AP file altogether (moved it somewhere else entirely that FS9 will never find) and will try your sequence.

Stoop, see my previous post. Wink

Gotcha. Only curious thing is that I can't my machine to puke. I just re-did your sequence, flew all around etc, restarted a new flight at DaNang, and still works OK with the exception of no runway. I'd still like to duplciate it but it seems redunant now since a fix is (kinda) known....not in your case yet but Al's experience shows it is "solveable".

I wonder what's up on your system though, do you think it's possible that you have more than one file missing?

Can work with you via PM on getting a list from you and doing a comparison to my system.

Stoop,
Fled zipped up ALL the Asia bgl's and sent me, and I installed. Didn't help, though. And I ONLY have this problem at Da Nang...I tested other VN runways and all is fine (as are "Anomaly Airways" scenes). I deleted the .dat scenery files and let them rebuild, but no joy there either.

I'm starting to suspect your B-58's went off course and had an accidental discharge.

Well, if you're not tired of the subject, there may be other things to try. What you've proven is that your issue just isn't in the same place as Al's.

In reviewing some other folders - mainly the root FS9 folder - there is a what looks like "master" scenery.dat file and a config file that appears to be rebuilt (or certainly updated) when a change is made.

SceneryStatus.DAT
scenery.cfg

I wouldn't delete scenery.cfg (FS9 won't rebuild it), but deleting SceneryStatus.DAT seems to cause a quick rebuild of the scenery database. That could, theoretically, put things right back in order. I just tried it and didn't do any harm...maybe worth a try.

Shocked

Sorry to get in here so late, it´s sunday

As for the problem mentioned by Ascout,

I suffered from the same thing , reason, having moved and changed that particular scenery so much , the HD gets a bit mixed up as the files are all over the HD and not together.

just overwriting the previous files WON'T help ya on this one.

What I did was the following:

1. remove the Phu_Bai scenery COMPLETELY via the in/un-install panel in fs9 and shut down fs9, then DELETE the folder associated with Phu Bai from your fs9/Addon Scenery

2. restart fs9 and let it rebuild the scenery Dbase, shut it off again !!

3. Go to Control panel of your puter and run a disc check for that particular partition where you have your fs9 installed (it could take some time)

4. After done that, DEFRAG the thing (the HD needs at least 25% of free space on your partition for M$ to be able to run defrag)

5. restart yer puter

6. Now it would be advisable to run a proggy called CCleaner available at www.CCleaner.com (it's FREE), you''ll be amazed as to what it finds cluttering up your HD's and registry.

7. After it's done it's thing, run a defrag for your C drive and for the drive you have fs9 on

8. restart your puter

9. Install the Phu-Bai_Redux scenery in fs9/Addon Scenery/

10. DELETE the scenery DAT that is with the Phu Bai file !

11. Start your fs9 and add the scenery via the addon panel

12. SHUT fs9 again Rolling Eyes

13. Re start fs9, let it build up de scenery Dbase, fly for a bit

14. SHUT fs9 again Rolling Eyes

15. run a defrag for the partition where your fs9 in

16. Restart your puter

17. Live and prosper

I know it's a PAIN IN THE PROVERBIAL BUTT, but I don't know of another way to get writ of this, if anyone else has "better" idea's, please feel free to vent them here, we all like to learn better ways to cope with this fenomena

Hmmmm.....

Windows XP recommends having 15% HD space available....and I have 12%. Rolling Eyes (Wife of Ascout has ripped about a gig of music to my HD while I weren't lookin').

I think I'm gonna' just have to live life without Da Nang until I get a new system or external HD, or both. Nothing remaining is really expendable except CFS3, and I'm just gonna' hafta' ponder that one.

If your system still handles what your using it for I'd suggest getting an external drive. Of course not sure of your puters specs but with prices like these it's cheaper and could be used on any future system.

I have a 120G external that I dumped all my junk on this weekend when reformatting my HD and starting fresh. Amazing how much quicker the system runs when you rid it of all the junk.

Sound advice fr8ycat,

Looks like a very good deal there,

I bought my external drive of 250 G's about 6 months ago and had to cough up 150 bucks.

I tossed all the zip's from d/l's and other not directly needed stuff on that and freed up a considareble amount of HD space on my system, when I d/l something I point it straight on the external HD and when I don't need that I just turn it off.

AND ... it's cheaper as buying a new rig..........wich at this moment is rather tricky with the Vista stuff coming up shortly Rolling Eyes

Got an external HD too.....cute lil' USB gizmo. Just knowing everything that I don't ever wanna loose is backed up on it is HUGE piece of mind and worth the price as it is. It's stored on a nice cool quiet out-of-the-way shelf for times when I need it.

Bingo! I got Da Nang back!

I just did complete uninstalls of Phu Bai Redux, Chu Lai, and Camp Eagle...just for good measure. Deleted .dat files for asia scenery. Restart. Shut down. Restart and add those sceneries again. Shut down. Restart. Presto! Da Nang is back (as well as the others I'd deleted)!

Lesson learned: Know what the wires is connected to before you yank 'em!

Didn't even defrag.
