My non-professional opinion its a safety device for firing blanks. With a gun this powerful even a blank cartridge is dangerous. This board's probabyl full of people who have used the actual item in training.

Right on the money it's a blank firing adapter. The actual purpose is to use the gas pressure from the blank to cycle the action and provide simulated automatic fire

Yeah a BFA. They normally tear up the elevation brass gear in the M1 CWS when traveling cross country.
