...does there not seem to be a slowing down of buzz for FSX on posts on various forums vs. FS9 lately? Just look at the dates of the most recent posts for the two on C-C.

And...I been over at Hovercontrol some lately....used to be, a page of threads would turn over in a day there...two at most....now it's taking 3-4 days....I know because I posted about three different items and they are still lingering on page two. It's definitely slow over there and I don't think it's because H-C has become less popular for any reason...it's a darn fine site.

My impression is that part of it is the difficulty of finding and, most particularly designing, addons for the new version. I might be wrong, but the ardor seems to have cooled a bit. It can't be the season...it ain't summer, and with the heavy snow in the midwest and east, more people are stranded at home if anything.

What's up?

...and I mention only in passing....I ain't bought it yet, and have no immediate plans to do so. As none of the addon's that I like so much (and I don't just mean my own!) don't work as well in it, what would be the point?

I was in no rush to go from FS2002 to FS9 and right now have virtually NO incentive to move on...

Nope. I tended toward UH-1 variants and that simplified frame-friendly "long ranger" (I forget who did it right now) for most of my heli flying.

I never got behind the 412, excellent as all reports said it was. I'm a simple guy. Rolling Eyes

Which reminds me...did anything ever come of that AH you-know-what?

I see the same thing and there's a couple of factors involved, I believe:

- Because it's SO different, (unlike FS2002/2004) there's a natural split in users that's never happened before.

- Those people who have made the transition to it and fly it more than FS9 (and I'm one of 'em) are also waiting on an upcoming performance patch and also have a natural wait for FSX-specific add-ons to catch up.

- Those people with FS9 are mostly happy where they are but some get a buzz (not here, thank god) of dissing FSX while they stick with FS9. This has killed the mood on many boards. AVSim is a good example, it's rare that even the most innocuous post (like, maybe a question on flap operation in the Beaver) doesn't get mired down with the same old "Low-FPS" b1tch-fest).

- When it's on a system that can run it decently, it's REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD IMO and simply put, it's hard to not go fly it as opposed to post about. Complicating this is the fact that if you can run it good, you might not feel comfortable about extolling it's virtues lest you be seen as an "FSX-Elitist" or fanboy (sadly these terms are becoming commonplace on some boards).

So, personally I enjoy it quietly. But, I do enjoy it, and I think it's just a matter of time until it's issues are addressed, hardware catches up and it's accepted (and discussed) on a wider basis.

Yeah, I sure didn't intend to start a b!tch-fest or dis-war neither...I was just noting a real slow-down in the post rate and speculatin' why....('specially since I can't do scenery for it, among other reasons).

And...I'm perfectly happy with FS9 and don't mean to knock anybody's decision to move up and on...

Oh....I was remiss in not mentioning a certain OH-6A that I like to fly....though I wish it had a companion gunship escort (*ahem*...*cough*)

I think a big problem, and I fall into this category, are the number of people who have a system able to run it as smooth as their FS9 runs. I don't plan on buying it for quite sometime as I need a system overhaul (heck, still working on a graphics card vs. my Intel Chip!!). That has been my biggest turn off.

The other factor would be with all of the amazing add-ons, aircraft and mesh, I think you hit the nail on the head here, is waiting for add-ons to catch up. I'd hate to leave behind the 100+ aircraft I have (most are flown, some are in the "museum") and the 50 gigs of scenary.

Overall, I am very impressed with what I have seen and heard about FSX. From the different camera angles, ability to fly co-pilot, graphics, etc.. I look forward to the day when I can get my hands on it and start filling a second hard drive.

Anyway, from a bystander never have flown FSX, my 2 cents Laughing

Yep!

And, this may not necessarily have to do with FSX (what I mean is, I didn't intend to veer the discussion in that direction). It could be completely unrelated to either sim, really.

I say that because - not that I watch it - I saw a commercial saying something about how a new season of American Idol is kicking off. Maybe that explains the lull in the sim world right there????

Rolling Eyes Shame on you for listing the LongRanger before the finest SCOUT helo ever made. Maybe you should change your name from ASCOUT to ALONGRANGER Wink

Did you ever look really close at this pic I put in the photo gallery a few months back? There is a hidden little somethin, somethin.

It hasn't progressed much further, except it now has windows. Got a little discouraged with it and gave it a rest but I do plan on continuing with it.

Yo...Mea Culpa, Homie, I said I was remiss, and after all, you know how seldom I make it much past the "Luv Shak" Wink

Looks like you still need to do some sheet metal work before heading to the paint shop. We can steal the rotor blades off one of the UH-1's we've got layin' around, patch some of the holes with beer can patches and duct tape, and fabricate a canopy with some plexi I cannibilzed from Stoop's dinky aerobatic fixed wing thingy...the cockpit needs some airin' out anyway, if you know what I mean. Wink

So quit all this LOLLYGAGGIN' around and let's get to steppin, Dude! You and Hunt are off that latrine detail what with Chili on board...Let's hear some hammerin' in there before I have to put one of my size 12's up someone's backside like Paul Senior! Twisted Evil

Unfortunately I'm hung up on the turbine intakes/exhaust. just gonna take some reworking and looking over pics to get it where it needs to be.

Where it needs to be is in the "downloads" section. Mr. Green Take all the time you need, not to exceed, oh, a month, give-or-take...with time off for meals and bathroom breaks (but only for #2, you have a pilot's relief bottle for a reason, Richard Wink )

We'll have Gretchen fix you up some sam'itches.

See you in April!
