Piney,
These serial number locations are from the two M24 Chaffee's that are in the 1st CAV and 4ID collections. The serial numbers are found right under the MG port on the front of the hull. I have also been in formed that the stamped number, (starts with a T) that is located on the side of the hull, beside the drivers hatch has some indication as to the vehicles ultimate ID, (per Joe DeMarco). These serials are 623, T626(1st CAV) and serial 363, T376(4ID).
Per Joe DeMarco, serial 623 was built by Cadillac in Detroit in October 1944 and it's correct USA number should be 30113216. Here are some photo's, enjoy.

A little further information on these serial numbers.

- Serial 363, with the T376 on the side of the hull. Joe Demarco has identified this Chaffee as being built by Cadillac in Detroit in August 1944. The T376 on the side hull means it was the 376 hull assembled by Cadillac. It's proper USA number should be 30112956. It was acquired from the Center of Military History on 14 August 1972.

- Serial 623, with the T626 on it's side was also a Cadillac build, but from October 1944. It was the 626th hull assembled and it's USA number should be 30113216. This vehicle was acquired by Ft Hood around 2002 from Ft Riley, KS.

- Both of these Chaffee's are early builds. Joe tells me that rectangular fittings with 6 bolts were attached to lower front and rear hulls of serials 713 onward. These were for flotation devises. An approx total of 4731 M24's were built, by both Cadillac and Massey-Harris.
