I visited a museum, which is located near where I live in East of France, and they have a T-34/85 in running condition. Here is the SN I read on the front hull :
B40482 52564 or B40482 525640
Maybe you could help me in finding the date when it was built?
thanks in advance
Pierre-Olivier

Can you provide a pic of the SN? I'd like to know where to find them on T-34s...
Neil

I guess this is common to the vast majority of the Russian armoured vehicles : the SN is at the bottom of the front armour plate. I found a SN at this location on some WW2 and cold war Russian armoured vehicles (remember the T-72s at Saumur).

I'll have to check the APG examples, but I believe at least one (the oldest one I think) just has a checkerboard series of numbers in each box going up from left to right. I think Bob and mine's theory was that it was stamped by the plant in question to show the date that it was built or something like that....

That would be similar to the plate found on M41 & M42 series vehicles.
I will be up at Aberdeen on Monday April 7 for the Spring Urbanna High School field trip. I will try and look at the T34/76 in the warehouse then.
I also have a tour planned for April 12. A Marine Corp League group from New Jersey is coming down.

this T-34/85 is located at the Abri Museum, Hatten (near Haguenau/Wissembourg, East of France). I'll add the SN to the France register anyway..

Of course I forgot to check the two T-34/85s.... And the 76 in the warehouse... Doh!
So what is this checkerboard progression of numbers?
