Post subject: Need help identifying this unit...

[img][/img]
All I know about this picture is that the aircraft is a McDonnell Douglas F-4E-37-MC Phantom, built in 1968 under contract number 68-0303/0365. Many planes in this run later became birds flying with Greece and Turkey if they made it through Vietnam. A few became drones. My question is what unit is this in the picture? Is there a site somewhere that "de-codes" the tail unit designator, (as in the "OS" on this tail). Also, just how common were sharks mouths on aircraft? I've seen them on almost everything, esspecially P-40's, F-105's, F-4's, and A-10's.

I believe the OS is for Osan AFB, Korea, and the shark mouth paint is typical of fighters, especially using the E model of the F-4 during that time frame. I believe there was an F-4 unit in Osan during the Viet Nam era. I was almost sent there during the incident where an American officer was beaten to death by North Korea soldiers in the DMZ at Panmunjom (sorry about the spelling), when he went in to trim a tree. We retaliated by removing the tree, but tensions were high and extra personnel were sent into Korea just in case.
