Any armor at Grafenwohr
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. I will be at Grafenwohr training area within two weeks. Any known (or unknown Wink ) armor there?

We've discussed it on this forum a couple of times, for example:

www.com-central.net/in...mp;p=86205

www.com-central.net/in...mp;t=14181

I think I remember someone posting some photos of tanks on display there, but I can't find them now. I haven't yet written up the tanks there, though the location's in the database ('34') because of tanks previously there that I have written up. Don't forget, too, it's very close to Vilseck ('35'):

Preserved Tanks in Germany

There's hartziel too - as well as wrecks there appears to be a semi-formal display with an M26, M24 and other vehicles:

The complete set can be found here:
Grafenwohr set

No sign of the M26 Pershing, but there was an empty pad with a sign for a M41 Walker Bulldog

Security was high, so there was no chance to access Vilseck. However I could see a M113A1 as gateguard at the north gate (but no pictures).

The ranges where in use, so no luck there either.

Slight typo there I am sure as its an M13 modified post-war with a four-gun arrangement.

Didn't the M13 have a two gun system? Those halftracks are even harder to recognize than the Shermans. Anyway I'm counting on the allknowing collective knowledge of the group to correct my mistakes.

Do you have a larger image Michel? There is something not quite right about the gun arrangement.....

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Actually, the Sherman pictured below is an M4A1E9.
The E4 is a Sherman with 75-mm mantlet and turret retrofitted with a 76-mm gun - see web.inter.nl.net/users...etro76.htm

Regards,
Hanno

Hi Hanno

I can't believe I made that mistake again (probably the 10th time )
Indeed it is a M4A1E9 with the spaced out suspention (I promise I will never make that mistake again)

Having examined your larger image I am almost sure that is an M13 with an additional pair of 'guns' added to make it look M16ish..

The gun arrangement is all wrong for a post-war-four-gun modified version.
