Post subject: Artillery in The Netherlands PRTL-CA1 Cheetah

Original designation:PRTL-CA1 Cheetah

PTRL = Pantser Rups Tegen Luchtdoelen = Tracked Armor against Air targets

country of origin: The Netherlands
All remaining vehicle's have been redrawn from service in 2006

At the moment I know only 4 surviving examples in the Netherlands

2 at the Army Museum Delft
one of these is at the museum building in Delft, the other is at the museum depot at Soesterberg

1 is at the Overloon museum

1 at the Army Cars museum

There have been 101 vehicles in the Dutch army, ordered in 3 production batches

The first was ordered in 1968, this was an prototype and was an German pre-production vehicle
This vehicle remains at the museum in Delft, official designation 5 PFZ-C

An further 5 vehicles where ordered in 1971, official designation 5 PFZ-CA

The remaining 95 vehicles ordered n 1973, last one delivered in 1977
This last production batch was an real Dutch version of vehicle, not an rebuild and had the designation 5 PFZ-CA1

The name Cheetah was not the offical name for the vehicle.
Apperently the first vehicle was delivered to an C-squadron, who named the vehicle Cheetah
The name of this vehicle, started on life of it's own, after picture's of this vehicle started to appear

It was only in 2000 that the vehicle was offical known as Cheetah

PRTL-CA1 Cheetah OVerloon 2009 named ABACUS

This vehicle has it's front radar rotated to the storage position
Usually this was done during road marches or storage to prevent damage to the radar
This could also be done to the radar beam at the rear of the turret

PTRL-CA1 Cheetah Army Car Museum Zwijndrecht

This vehicle has all its radars in storage position

The PTRL has 2x 35mm canon that also can be used against ground targets
The canon are link-belt fed, no comment on the colors please Mr. Green

Rear radar in storage position

The rear radar on the German and Belgium vehicle's is very different in shape
These vehicle's have an more dish like shaped radar

Michel
