New Forum Gremlins

Post by wheelsup_cavu »

Some glitches to get sorted and some permissions that need to be tweaked while things get up and running again.

The first glitch I found is that if someone uses their old forum link that page shows but if you use the Enter the Forums image in the "Join the Conversation" section the link associated to the Enter the Forums image goes to a 404 page.

old forums link: (This is the link I have bookmarked for over a century.) :D

Code: Select all

https://com-central.net/forums/
Link associated to the Enter the Forums image.

Code: Select all

https://new.com-central.net/phpBB3/
All the other links are working on that page but I do occasionally get a General Error message. However if I use my back button and click the link again it works.

Code: Select all

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Operation not permitted [2002]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
--------------
  • At the moment I do not have permission to use the Private Message feature.
For spam reasons I seem to recall that most forums now require at least 5 messages to be posted in the forums before that feature is enabled.
  • Images can not be directly input into your post.
An outside hosting service is necessary, which is fine. This option may be enabled as more posts are made?
  • I do get logged out for reasons I have not figured out yet.
This may be do to a time limit for inactivity but it has also happened when I get the General Error message.

The old forum link? LOL....yep, unfortunately the php version was no longer supported (anywhere), so in looking at the options available and since the old software was getting really 'long in the tooth', I thought starting with a new more modern up to date software was the best choice. Starting over stinks, but I believe it may work out better in the 'long haul'.

Link to the forums from the main site gives me an occasional error as well. I'm hoping as the cache settles that won't be as much of an issue... :)

As far permissions go, I'm still in the learning phase. I did see the default 'registered' users have default posting minimum prior to unlocking some additional features.

As I learn the new system, which by the way is what our old forum software was built on, things should improve. I found a setting with cookies that I didn't have set right, but it's fixed now.

Another funny thing... When I first set up the new board I immediately had 8 registered applications and all spammers...lol
