Ejaculations to all lads who keep Com-central alive and kicking! Com-Central has breached the "5000 member" mark overnight. A considerably outstanding achievement indeed.

I heard through the grapevine that Bushy is going to buy 5000 brand new glycol cooled gaming rigs for current members. I can't wait for the day that membership reaches 10,000. He'll probably buy us all new cars.

I'll settle for a second hand 1966 Mustang with a 289 cubic inch Windsor HiPo engine if that's ok. I'm not fussy about the paint job. I'll probably respray it when it gets here. That should save a few bucks.

That Bushy is a really nice bloke.

ROFLMAO...

Gaming Rigs is probably too strong a word, I think it's more like an Abacus with parts missing..

Hmm...a white Mustang? Like THIS ONE!... Wink

The intended use of said Mustang will be strictly for "chick magnetism". I would have to paint it black old chap.

Hmmmm..... I wonder if a Rolls Royce Merlin would fit in there? Maybe if I modified the firewall...... and the floor pan and then..........

It sounds so crazy it just might work.

WOW Wheels! What a great vid! It sounds like a "Spit" or "51" too!! I like the saying, "..it wants to turn the car over, not just propel it forward."... I bet it does!! lol

WB, chick magnet? I was told you need any more 'magnetism'...lol

Hmmmm! Well just by chance my old lady had the photo album out and I've been threatening to scan pictures of my old ride so here goes...is this what you're after?

My first car - '66 Fastback 2+2 parked at a surf spot I used to frequent about a mile north of the San Clemente pier.

Just like your would-be chick magnet machine, it was "resprayed" but in Midnight Blue instead of black.. that's after it had an unfortunate run-in with a very nice '70 Chevelle that sideswiped us while I was pulled over to the side of the road in the middle of the desert with my girlfriend one night to....ummm...check the oil....

(that was a very expensive American Racing mag that got taco'd, too....)

It was Powder Blue originally and had a totally cherry interior, I bought it with only 21K miles on the clock and that was in '76....

Didn't have a Merlin engine but came with the stock 2-bbl 289 that I eventually swapped out with a built 289 block, forged 302 crank, and 351 Windsor heads (all 289's are Windsors as opposed to 351 Cleveland vs, Windsor) which breath a bit better but drop the compression a tad, so it had 11:1 pistons, an Isky cam, an Offenhauser hi-rise intake and a crappy Carter AFB carb (all I had available at the time after doing the build). Ran like a striped-@ss ape but I never followed through and changed the rearend gearing....should of....put a shift kit in the stock C4 auto trans though, so with the tall rear gearing it was quite something on the extremely long straight, empty roads common to the High Desert of So Cal....(blew a rear tire with the speedo pegged at 140 coming home from work one day....my arse bit a big chunk of foam out of the seat cushion and puckered up so tight that to this day they haven't been able to give me a colonoscopy...)

After 7 years I sold it to get this little Italian job, this is driving home from the beach on the 91 freeway south of Riverside CA.....was the first of two X-1/9's I had the pleasure of owning....

...it came with a brand-new girlfriend that turned out to be even more of a keeper, haven't traded her in yet....

...thanks for letting me go on about it, I'm havin' too much fun with this new printer/scanner and an old photo album....

And YES that Merlin V-12 powered Chebby is frikkin' INSANE!!!!! Mr. Green

Leaf spring lift kit?! Tsk, tsk....

Did you strangle the guy who sideswiped you? Out in the desert is a good place to dispose of a body..... Wink

Well I was a kid....and poor.....I didn't know no better! If I remember right that lift kit was like $10 at Western Auto (anyone remember them?)... 4 aluminum plates and leaf spring two bolts & nuts. 15 minutes and you're ready to cruise! Wink

The guy who hit us came over a berm haulin' buns and didn't see us in time... he spun out and ended up out in the desert quite bashed up as well. It was a bad scene, and just one of those things. Felt pretty lucky, and pretty bad for him. Heck we were all just too stunned. Nice quiet desert evening out in the middle of nowhere with a lovely and willing seniorita and then...wham, total chaos... he was crying, openly weeping, it was a pretty primo Chevelle apparently, at least up to that point....

And yep Bushy there is a lot to be said for a sporty, nimble yet comfortable ride.. Mr. Green

So anyway the point being that this is a FINE website to yak about planes, tanks, cars, and wimmens, at random even! Don't know how I'd stay sane without it....Here's to 5,000 more members!

I can't quite place what section of the 91 that is exactly Stoopy but I can guarantee that it doesn't look anything like that now.
There isn't an open section between the opposing lanes its entire length. It has a concrete median all the way from the 215/91 interchange to it's end in Gardena.

This is the 91 heading west just past highway 71 and Prado Dam. The Liberty Bell Murial painted on the dam spillway in 1976 is still on it. Smile

That's one scary Chev Wheelsup. I think the bloke who built it has a Rod Shop down in Castlereagh near Sydney. If you're interested, go to YouTube and search Castlereagh Drag Racing. As far as I know, Castlereagh Drag Strip is the only place in Australia where you can legally race against the cops over a quarter mile.

Nice looking 'Stang you had there Ascout. A mate of mine had one just like it many years ago. It was converted to right hand drive. It had a 351 under the hood with a 4 barrel Holley and 4 speed Borg Warner gearbox. The torque eventually killed the gearbox and it was replaced with a Chrysler gearbox cannibalized from a 318 Valiant Regal. At the time many reputable mechanics out here swore by Valiant gearboxes because they were bullet proof.

He never told me how fast it could go but he did tell me that it was a thirsty bitch. 7 miles to the gallon on a trip. I'll bet that Merlin Chev gets a lot less than that. I'm not sure how much late 60s Mustangs were going for in your neck of the woods during 1990, but the one mentioned above was sold for $15,000 AUD. It would have been a lot more if it was original.

Getting back to fuel consumption, my Father recently told me about one of his mates who purchased a British PT boat in the late 50s, which was fitted with a Merlin power plant. They had only gone two miles up the river when my Father realised that the engine had consumed just under 44 gallons of fuel. Keep in mind that they had 60 feet of hull in the water. If the hull was planing it would have been more economical, but still expensive to run. Them were the good old days. LOL

In fairness, that is Stoopy's Stang above, not that I haven't had one meself, but it was a later edition, all "Hursted" out. I have it on good authority that Stoopy had one of these two, but in silver or something... Wink

"center column"?

That's a "five on the floor", with a white ball Hurst short-throw stick. I believe Stoopy has this set up as well.

'Murica is the home of the "four on the floor" performance car, you just don't see them as often these days.
