Post subject: Tweak for XP

I was looking around and found this tweak for xp. Longhorns Speed Boost feature is in XP and it just has to be set up.I tryed it and my computer is faster now than ever before my games load a lot faster to Mr. Green

www.winxpfix.com/page3...e.htm#lhsb

I just added EnableSuperfetch = 1 to the reg and set EnablePrefetcher = 3 to EnablePrefetcher = 0.

Be sure to backup your registry before you change anything

I did 2 backups LOL! just to make sure

OK Archie,

This is how I did it :
1) go to start,
open the execute proggy,
type in regedit,
enter

A screen wil appear with the register

then look for :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\
Control\
Session Manager\
Memory Management\
PrefetchParameters\ => once you have found this folder then on the right screen rightclick the mouse and a menu will appear, select add new DWORD value.
name the key => EnableSuperfetch once the key is created right click it again and set it's value to 1

now look for a key named => EnablePrefetcher

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\
Control\
Session Manager\
Memory Management\
PrefetchParameters\
EnablePrefetcher => this key is probably set to 3 or another value right click it and you will have a menu to change the value, set it to 0

That's it, exit all programs and reboot.

In case off we can go through it on TS, I've added some screenie's of my register so you know how it looks, disadvantage is that my system is in dutch Laughing but the basics are the same.

A quick way to add this key is to make a simple text file in notepad. Name it e.g. enablesuperfetch.txt and paste this content:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]

"EnablePrefetcher"=dword:00000000
"EnableSuperfetch"=dword:00000001

Afterwards, rename the file into enablesuperfetch.reg and execute it.

Similar way, to make a file that reset to original setting, make a text file and name it reset.txt with the following content:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]

"EnablePrefetcher"=dword:00000003
"EnableSuperfetch"=dword:00000000

Afterwards rename the file to reset.reg and execute it in order to reset the original settings if you wish to get back to orginal setting.

As always, before messing with the registry, do a backup of registry first.
