Surviving M3A3 Stuarts??
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Surviving M3A3 Stuarts??

Hello,

after having visited a guy who is currently restoring an M3A3 to running condition (photos here M3A3 Stuart), I would like to list all the surviving M3A3 Stuart tanks (only the M3A3 version for the moment).

Here are the survivors that I have found :
1 Ouistreham, France
2 Saumur museum, France
3 Saumur museum, France
4 Private owner, Vaucluse department, France
5 Belgrade, Serbia
6 Pivka, Slovenia
7 Littlefield collection, USA
8 Plane of fame museum, Chino, USA
9 National Armor and Cavalry museum, USA
10 National Armor and Cavalry museum, USA
11 Smith park, Chicago, IL, USA
12 Maywood, IL, USA
13 Nokomis, IL, USA
14 Anderson, IN, USA
15 Richmond, IN, USA
16 Richmond, IN, USA
17 Warsaw, IN, USA
18 Houston, MN, USA
19 Celina, OH, USA
20 Private coll, Colombus, OH, USA
21 Minerva, OH, USA
22 South Houston, TX, USA
23 Fort Hill AP, TX, USA

are there some other ones? I think that there are few survivors in the UK, right?

Ft Benning (NA&CM) only has one M3A3 which was in the inventory of the Patton Museum prior to departure.

I went back to my original notes from Sinsheim and now I realized why I had it listed as M3A3 without checking. I based the id on P-O's pictures here Smile

Massimo,

you can see that the M5A1 engine deck is higher than the M3A3 :

What variants were the 16 that came out of Brazil a few years back?

The engine deck is only one feature to distinguish the M3A3 from the M5A1.
For convenience, when viewed from the frontal quadrant:
M3A3: Flat engine deck, sloped upper hull sides.
M5: Raised engine deck, vertical hull sides, M3A1 type turret.
M5A1: Raised engine deck, vertical hull sides, same turret as the M3A3.

and the engine is different too :
M3, M3A1 and M3A3 : radial engine with 7 cylinders or Guiberson diesel engine
M5 and M5A1 : Twin Cadillac engines

Hi Pz E! Hi Folks!

If I remember right, a few where ID'ed as M3A1s with the rest as M3s.

It seems that Wheatcroft has the UK's only example.
