Gallery Prioritization Help
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi All -

Mrs VB and I have been continuing to visit as many AFV locations as we can in our travels - almost an overwhelming amount - LOL!
To help prioritize our efforts in processing and posting photos, we’d like your opinions on where to focus our efforts.

Should we post the larger museum collections first or concentrate on the more unique and smaller AFV locations?

Here are some of the locations we’ve visited recently:

Larger Museum Collections

US Army Heritage & Education Canter & Heritage Trail - Carlisle, PA
Pennsylvania National Guard Museum - Ft Indiantown Gap, PA
Fort Taber Military Museum - New Bedford, MA
Wisconsin Veterans Museum - Madison, WI
MNNG Museum - Camp Ripley, MN
Heartland Military Museum - Lexington, NE
State Arsenal Military Museum - Lincoln, NE
WW2/Korea LVT Museum - Camp Pendleton, CA
USMC Mechanized Museum - Camp Pendleton, CA
Updates to CFB Borden - mostly outside displays we missed previously- M60A3, M24, Lots of German WW2 Artillery

Unique AFVs/ Smaller collections

AMVets Post 136 - Ephrata, PA - M60A2
Veterans Monument - Euclid, OH - M103A2
Oklahoma Veterans Center – Ardmore, OK – 2 M110s and M59
VFW Post 3656 – Wake Island Veterans Memorial – Bristow, OK – M103, M114 +
Camp Pendleton, CA - Misc displays around post
AL Post 79 - Riverside, CA - LVT(A)1
American Legion Post 154 - Wyoming, MI - M43
C/1-126 Calvary - MIARNG Armory - Dowagiac, MI - M103 & M60A3
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 451 - Baltimore, MD - M551
Shively Park - Shively, KY - M103A2
VFW Post 1181 - Valley Station, KY - M48/M60A2 turret Frankentank

We realize it’s an impossible task to make everyone happy, but let us know what you think.

First come, first served! Smile

Cheers,
VB

For me, what matters isn't that much the size of the collection, but how hard is to find quality images of it on the web. Sometime small collections or even single monuments are very well covered already, at the very same time larger collections can be neglected.

On a very personal note, I would love to see the artillery from CFB Borden.

Thanks!

Here is a shot of the M59 at Lincoln, NE. Some "genius" at the NeArNG decided to paint all te equipment in green CARC whether it was historically accurate or not.

still less bad than the "camouflaged" tracks on that Panther. Historically accurate or not is not the question, there is no reason to paint some parts of the running gear of a tank. Sorry, but this is really stupid :

Hey VB,
I'd love to see the LVT Museum stuff from Camp Pendleton as I have struck out getting in there during my visits in Nov 2011 & March 2012.

For Rafal,
Here are some notes regarding 3 of the vehicles on your list:

M59 – California ARNG Armory, Santa Rosa, CA (USA)
It is tucked in the Engineer unit's motor pool, so somebody will need to get permission to photograph it.

M59 – Tropic Lightning Museum, Wahiawa, Oahu, HI (USA)
I'm hoping to get pics of it when I'm there this coming August.

LVTH6 - American Legion Post 79, Riverside, CA (USA)
Doesn't exist. VB can vouch for that. There's a LVT(A)-1 located across the street from it. I took pics of the -1 in 2010. VB says he took some as well.

Rafal -

Regarding:
M56 Scorpion – Missouri Veterans Home, St James, MO (USA)

Sometime ago, we stopped by the MO Veterans Home in St James, MO and went looking for the M56. We couldn't find any sign of it on the grounds.

Also as Chris said, the LVTH6 listed for American Legion Post 79 in Riverside, CA is not there. Only the LVT(A)1 is on display.

Hello Lesley,

Unfortunately, the T-55 was inaccessible. A chap at the museum said it and the T72 were being drained of fluids and were in a shop bldg somewhere on base. Sorry.

The only Leopard we saw was the one outside the museum.

There are photos posted in that same gallery of the T55 cutaway inside the museum.
