The breech was particularly unusual . . . What is this?

Japanese Model 4 (1915) 150mm Howitzer, these were broken into 2 loads for transport, this one is on the transport carriage, Out of 11 known to me , only one is on the firing carriage. Notice no recoil cylinders

Huh. I wonder where it is from.

How did the breech work?

According to Wiki (yeah, we know), if it's the same gun, it did have a recoil system (hydropneumatic).

What AJ meant was that the arrangement that's preserved doesn't have any recoil mechanism or recuperator, i.e., it can't be fired that way. That indicates that this is just the recoiling parts of the weapon on a transport limber.

Where is the Type 4 howitzer that is complete?

There's another barrel transport vehicle at Wisconsin Rapids, WI - noted
in John Anderson's warmemorials.us website.

Regards,

Charlie

my mistake, I see 2 on the firing carriages, one on Saipan and the other in Beijing. The one on Saipan is in very poor condition, the Beijing one looks ready to fire. None in the US, I wonder if the folks bring this back thought they were complete guns?
