6 Kentucky AFV Galleries
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Probably because it will fit and it's what they had available. There are several of these "Frankentanks" around since they could be cobbled together easily for display (or in some instances, hard targets or practice vehicles for recovery). The general public doesn't know the difference.

...and with the decorative lighting, who cares? Laughing

The snowman TC on the M103 is a bit much, however.

If you think the snowman is too much - just wait until we post the Kalamazoo, MI M60A3 decorated for Halloween.... Smile

Apart from missing some bits like air cleaners, that Frankentank also has something odd on it's front glacis. I wonder if this hull was blade or mine-roller equipped at one time. Anyone know what that is?

I have physically seen 7 Frankentanks and know of 5 or 6 others all in the Ft Knox area. I believe they were strictly a Ft Knox fabrication.

Obviously M60A2 turrets but the hulls are M48/M48A1. Only the Valley Station Frankentank has that mount equipment on the front slope. I assumed it was for blade mounting...

Don

Frankie's hull is of an M48A1,

Hence no air cleaner units on the outside. That box on the front is the hydraulic manifold for the M8 blade kit. Not visible when the armored covers are in place. Here is a diagram for the M8A3 kit used on M48A3's. Pretty much the same with the exception of modifications used to adapt for the external air filter units and features unique to the A3.

I was pretty sure the answer would surface sooner or later....and from where. Laughing
