The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi All,

We’ve added a gallery of photos of the M48A1 at VFW Post 448 in Muskegon, MI.
According to Joe D, this M48A1 may have been used as test rig for the Teledyne/Continental installation of the AVDS-1790-2C/CD-850 combination. As usual, Loren got a number of high angle shots of the engine deck. Enjoy!

Wow, you beat me to the punch. I just took some more pictures of this vehicle today. I took some pictures of the rear decks that show the exhaust ports that seem to indicate that this is a diesel conversion.

Great Pictures as usual VB,

Somebody wanted to make sure no on e could access the engine bay. I count at least nine Series 5200 locks on the back grills and exhaust stacks. Engine and transmission has to be still in there. Why else would someone put locks on the exhaust stacks ensuring the flaps stay shut and preventing water or junk from falling in. Can't see the stacks still being there without an engine since they attached directly to the exhaust coming off the turbos.

What was the purpose of the flat vertical metal bars on the sides of the engine grills? I don't see them on the regular versions of the M48A1. What purpose did they serve as part of the diesel conversion of the vehicle?

..but a determined 'Dumpster Diver' would have some bolt cutters in his 'goodie bag'....but for 'Series 200' locks a battery powered die grinder will do the trick... Cool
