Excellent video. IMO, Trooper Jones needs some serious "counseling" from his comrades. Otherwise, an outstanding bit of work on these soldiers part.

Interesting video Ascout. Here's one that kind of gives the impression these guys have been ambushed before and don't take no more chances with fast approaching cars...

...also, it looks like a VIP security detail (from the type of vehicle) of the kind that experience suggests can expect to be intercepted (usually, about 3-4 vehicles in these processions, they are easily recognized...and there's the schedule security aspect) and I've seen some other videos that confirmed this (Timed roadside IED that was detonated prematurely).

There've been some interesting adaption putting civilian style/heavy equip. headlights on tanks to: 1. cast more light and...2. conceal the fact that it's a tank, at night. Big surprize to the BG's when they get close. This is done at a lot of roadblocks. Wink

OK maybe a dumb question but....what did Trooper Jones not do right? Stay down inside the vehicle too much instead of manning his gun topside? And was he shooting up in the air at one point

Sounds like there were several RPG's. Nasty stuff......interesting - scratch that, NOT GOOD - what they had to say about the Iraqi Police.

Exactly, on both counts. He was more a liability than an asset...and he was supposedly manning the principle weapon on the vehicle.

The good news is...they got the tango's.

I also recall seeing some speculation that these are contract workers and on the trigger-happy side. In a couple of those "approaches" I'd say the initial bursts of warning shots are well justified (the usual practice seems to be a sequence of: warning/radiator-grill area/windshield-shoot-to-kill).

A number participants have commented that it's amazing how crazy some of the local drivers are...and unresponsive to warning shots, even at roadblocks/checkpoints. This seems counterintuitive to a benign intent, so a hail of gunfire usually follows. To do otherwise often results in bad experiences.

Seemed like they were justified to me. When you watch it closely it's just like you said radiator/grill then windshield-shoot-to-kill. First shots were to pretty much make it clear to stay back. The time he put shots through the windshield it sure looked like the approaching driver had one thing in mind...and it wasn't to ask for directions! Look at the drivers of the other cars 1:20 into the video. They seemed to think it was a good idea to run as far away from that car as they could get.
Shocked
