The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Did anyone check out the Military Channel last night and see this program? I thought it was pretty neat how the CG allowed the Porsche King Tiger to rock back and forth like it had bad shocks.

Oh well, I had never seen it before and was wondering if anybody got the chance or were too busy playing with their tanks! Laughing

Didn't see it, but could that not be useful from the standpoint of "absorbing the recoil" in vehicles of the day?

BTW, ever seen a Sheridan fire? It pretty much rocks only once, but what a "rock"!

Never seen a Sheridan up close, but the pictures of it firing are worth a thousand or more words!

Jeff

I saw that show. At first I wasn't sure what kind of vismod they used, but then realized it was CGI animation.

Kinda cheesie but thought the show was okay. The Bradley/Ike/Patton actors were waaay off, I felt. Hard to imagine Patton without George C. Scott.

Oh yea ... you won't get any argument from me on any of those counts. Most animation is almost static looking, without any motion while it moves across the screen. I just thought it was neat that they went to the extra trouble to try and make it look more realistic. The Tiger was way off in scale and size comparison in relationship with the hull to turret.

Like you said, the actors similarities were way off, but the show brought a different appearance than most of those efforts. At least we didn't see the same real footage that has been used to death!

Speaking of simulating recoil, in the 1951 movie "The Tanks Are Coming" there are several scenes where it looks like the driver popped the clutch at the same time the blank was fired to make the M4A3s "jump" a bit. The movie tanks appear to have more effect from the recoil than the M4s in combat newsreels. Still a nice effect.

Not as funny as the Saladin where, if you hadn't chocked the wheels, the recoil would ensure that you had to drive back onto the firing point after each round...

In fact, that was was necessary on Sheridans as well after 2-3 rounds to stay on line. Didn't matter if the range was fine rock/dirt like McFarland-Oliver range or the near fist-sized gravel of Cedar Creek or St. Vith.

When the gun fired, you were going somewhere.

you can find some online stores that are selling it and about all of them are from the US

Apperently it is part of the "WB archive collection" (whatever that may be)

You want the 1951 one or the 1941. The latter is on You Tube. www.youtube.com/result...+1951&aq=f
