Ford GPW Jeep info sought...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

This Ford GPW is at the Ft Eustis museum. The only data plates I could find had foriegn writing, (what language?). The "Date de Reception" is 8-5-63. I wrote down the miles and some other info but left them in my hotel room. The museums ass't curator gave me a printed listing of almost all their equipment to include serial numbers, a few days ago upon my request. Any info on this Jeep would be appriciated.

My guess as well, but I wasn't sure. Lend-Lease vehicle possibly?

I know the French rebuilt lots of jeeps postwar. I beleive they actually began remanufacturing them and then when they couldn't meet their needs opened up a new manufacturing facility.

Well it's either a Hotchkiss ( French built under licsense post war) or a French rebuilt US model.

Ask over at the G503 web board...they're all Jeep nuts over there (and you guys thing we get anal about armor! <rolls eyes>

Looks like a late production GPW that was rebuilt by the French in the 60's. Do you have photos of the tool box lids? Also look at the front crossmember, it should be a U channel in stead of a tube.
How did a French depot rebuild GPW end up in the Ft Eustis Museum?

The G503 gang might know the answer.

I wonder if it was brought back from Vietnam. The French left alot of US made equipment there when they pulled out. Eustis seems to have a lot of stuff brought back from there. Also, a lot of the M47's we gave them came back to the US when they were done with them with all the Data plates in French. Did we get our jeeps back from them too?

The plates are definitely French.

The first one begins "Ministry of the Armies - Attention - Maximum permitted road speeds for the following lever positions".
