From the Headlines....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

A joke to the questionable statement of John Kerry.....

...but I thought it was interesting seeing the vehicle to the left rear.

The M1117 ASV...

I saw this on another chat goup and mentioned if thats a M1117 in the picture thats an MP unit, and if its an MP unit its probably National Guard. And if its National Guard they've HAD to develop a sense of humor. The 'two weekends a month' they signed up for ten years ago have stretched into 16 month tours of duty! Some joke!

For those paying really really close attention, that M1117 is sporting a belly skid plate (armored?) protecting the forward transmission. That's something fairly new for the M1117.

I knew some one would do something like this sooner or later,
Howdy everyone,

"I saw this on another chat goup and mentioned if thats a M1117 in the picture thats an MP unit, and if its an MP unit its probably National Guard."

Mighty big assumption Mike, but in this case probably correct. But the 1117 is being used by everyone from Field Artillery, Armor, Infantry etc. Active, Reserve and Gaurd. SECFOR (Security Forces) units use them. They are the folks who do convoy escorts . My buddy who's here has 2 in his platoon and he's in an Armored Battalion active duty. It just depends if you deploy as what you are or what they say you will be. His second time around with the same unit and has yet to have a tank here. BTW, 16 months title 10, the time includes the Mobilization period from 1 month up to 6 depending on what unit you are. Unusual when the Gaurd stays beyond 12 in theatre as a unit. But I'm sure some have.

The M1117 was one of the participants in the CFPI held here in Feb-Mar. They had been in use and were being looked at as an interim replacement for the uparmored HMMWV.
