Report from Saumur (was Requests from Saumur)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Report from Saumur (was Requests from Saumur)

Dennis has recently posted some great pictures from Saumur - but Pierre-Olivier & I will be visiting the museum on Saturday followed by the vehicle demonstrations at the carrousel. I'm sure lots of pictures will be taken, perhaps even some video. But please let me know if there are any specific requests... Below is the most recent inventory list, please ignore the footnote numbers...

Hi Neil,
Here's my somewhat realistic "want" list in order of importance:

1)Panhard AMD 178 FRA
2)M4(105) Sherman Dozer USA out Has a dozer blade
3)Renault R-35 FRA ind
4)Hotchkiss H-39 FRA ind “D’Artagnan; RN 40743 12
5)Semovente da 75/18 su M.41 ITA

It goes without saying that whatever you and P.O. shoot will be most appreciated!!

Hi Neil! Hi Folks!

Any angles you have time for and can get of the M114 C&R.
Serial Number would be great if possible.

I guess I should start collecting any of those that show up.

Thank You!
Sgt, Scouts Out!

Neil,
Since you asked, Some few good pictures of the AMX-50B and also maybe one picture of the M60A3 and if at all possible the SN. I know to others there's a lot more rarer to see.

Especially serials from the Soviet built tanks in storage. And what they have in the storage sheds / hangars.

Have a good trip!

We'll try to see if we'll be able to visit the storage facilities (not publicly visible, of course), but I'm sure we will not be able to..

And I have only two 512 MB memory cards so I'll not be able to take more than 1 GB of photos.. I'm sure that will not be enough....

Hi Neil:

I"d very much appreciate some photos of the M47, particularly showing any French modifications (such as a folding platform on the rear hull plate).

Cheers and thanks,

Scott

I would like to see more interior and chassis photos of Humber Scout Car... Although this vehicle is listed as Mk.I, it has roofless (canvas covered) crew compartment with something I suppose to be reinforced floor armour - typical feature of Mk.II.
It would be great to consult some specialist or somebody familiar with differences between Mk.I and II...

Post subject: Re: Any requests from Saumur?

Just got back from a very full day with P-0 at Saumur & the Carrousel - here's a very brief report. We did a very thorough cataloguing of the Saumur museum, including some of the vehicles in storage around the museum. Found a bunch of SNs on the vehicles inside. As for those outside, lets just say P-O is more adventerous than I am Wink (or at least on foreign soil - I am probably just as adventerous at Aberdeen)

We also went to the carrousel, which I have to admit was somewhat dissapointing. I found the historic & modern vehicle demos to be rather phony - complete with American, British & Soviet tanks advancing with commanders all waving the appropriate flags - and amateurish... They were also very brief. At the VMMV open house for example a vehicle will usually drive around 3 or 4 times - they basically drove each vehicle around once, sometimes a second time later on... And unfortunately the King Tiger has a transmission problem that prevented it from participating, and the Panther that was present had a battery problem that prevented it from actually taking part... However, P-0 and I waited afterwards and got some very good pictures of the vehicles in their holding areas.

All in all a very good day - I took something around 500 pictures (nowhere near Dennis' 3k+ count of course...). Unfortunately I wont be able to post any pictures until get back to the states tomorrow night at the soonest...
