Was this used in the US??

All the intel I could find so far is either about the old Russian Imperial army or the British army

wouldn't put to much faith in the uniform, Sarco imports a lot from overseas, If I was a betting man I wouild say it's probably from Russia, They have been carrying a lot of old Soviet Bloc stuff for the past few years

I've met the owner or Sarco at Aberdeen. He is an active member of the Museum Foundation and is at the annual meeting/Christmas party every year (I couldn't go this year because of some family issues). He's always been friendly and would probably let you know where it came from if asked. That isn't to say he would tell you where he picked it up. Sources and contacts for some of that stuff are kept confidential. But if he knows who it was originally built for he would probably tell you

More info
Seller's Description:
One of a kind indeed! Where to start...The 494lb 37mm cannon is US made by Pratt & Whitney on a Hotchkiss design for the US navy. The date on the cannon is 1890. We have a few extras with it as well. There are 2 firing pins, feed tray, shoulder arm, 4 original shell casings, many reproduction bullets and a few shell casings. There is a empty shell casing bag and bolts for various parts on the cannon. The carriage is a French design although the cannon is US made. Not many of these were produced or still existing. We know of only 5 others that are in America. The barrels on the cannon are custom made off the originals. We have the originals that will come with it. Almost everything on the gun is made of bronze, inside and out. The carriage has a loop on the back for easy hook up and go capability. It can be towed. The cleaning rods are intact on the left side. This is a one of a kind that can't be found anymore. There is not much information on these out there due to the lack of them produced by Pratt & Whitney. Most of them were European made.

from another source

Heavy 37 mm Revolving Cannon

The Heavy land-service Revolving Cannon has the same calibre at 37 mm (1.45 inch), but the projectile and charge are heavier; this gun weighs 460 Kgs (9 cwt.), its total length is 1.9 m (6 feet 8 inches). The barrels are 34 calibres long. The explosive shell weighs 550 grams (19 oz.), and it attains an initial velocity of 458 m/s (1,502 feet/sec), with a charge of 112 grams (3.8 ounces) of powder. The maximum range is 5,000 m (5,500 yards).

This pattern was adopted by Brazil and the United States; China and Turkey also had a small number of them. They were used in the United States by General Miles in the 1879 Indian campaign; the effect of their fire upon the Indians, according to his report, was very demoralising.

This gun, when mounted on a field carriage, has about the same weight and size as an ordinary field piece. The total weight of the gun, carriage, and limber, with 300 rounds of ammunition and all accessories is about 2,000 Kg. (40 cwt.) [H4]
