Camp Beauregard, LA
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Splitting this out from the Alexandria thread, I would appreciate any info & pics on the vehicles displayed at Camp Beauregard.

Right now I only have the following:

Louisiana Maneuvers and Military Museum, Camp Beauregard, 409 F St
M4A3(75) Sherman USA out

But Quentin and GoogleMaps indicate there are more:

com-central.net/index....ic&t=12032

maps.google.com/maps?f...3&t=h&z=18

Thanks!

Neil

Did you try Bing Maps? It might give you a clue:

I could still use help with identifying the vehicles at this location.

www.bing.com/maps/defa...5166666667

From prior info there should be an M4A3(75) Sherman there.

From this birdseye view I can make out an M60A1/A3, and an M728.

I also wonder if its the "Thunderjet Park" identified in Alexandria, Louisiana in AFV News in 1968 - though, yes, I realize that's a Super Sabre on display and not an F-84 Thunderjet (maybe the latter was on display in 1968?). If true, there should be an M19 GMC as well...

I talked with my friend John about "Thunderjet Park" and he tried to find his pics, but was not able. I plan on making a day of tank spotting in April. Going to hit Ville Platte, Elton, Eunice, Kinder, Oberlin, Alexandria, and Camp Beauregard. Some of these will be updates of pics I already posted.

I finally found it,....I think.

I believe this was what was known as ThunderJet Park.

maps.google.com/maps?q...03664&z=18

The last time I drove by this was in July 1990 on a shuttle bus getting ready to fly out of England AFB to NTC.

I can't tell what is there, as my ISP is real slow tonite, and there is no street view close by. Maybe Tanklord can do a drive by....??

Dontos, I duly noted that position and will check it out. I flew out of England a few times myself going to NTC. First time was in 87 for Desert Guard, also known as the "Great Cajun ClusterF$%#". Wink Mr. Green

You should have seen the 5th ID NTC rotation in Aug 90. After Iraq invaded Kuwait, President Bush went on TV to reassure the world that the US Army regularily trained Desert Warfare Operations.

....hence we had the attention of the world's press corps as we got nuked & "chem'ed" on a daily basis for 28 days.

Oh what fun THAT was!!! Wink

BTW: As I remember there was a P47, F100, F104, & A10 at that memorial. All had the colors of the 'Flying Tigers'. Gee wonder why ? Rolling Eyes

I finally got a hold of the museum and got a decent run-down of what they have (or claim to have):

M4A3(75) Sherman
M26 Pershing (he said "artillery piece, M26 Pershing")
M42 Duster
M46? Patton (he said "M6 Patton")
M56 Scorpion
M59
M60A3?
M113
M551 Sheridan
M728

The only guy there who had a computer has been deployed, but he's gonna mail me their brochure which has some pics of what they have...

There is a Bing Bird's Eye view of your co-ordinates which is clearer:

www.bing.com/maps/defa...-92.529452

I recognise an A10, but that's as far as my knowledge of aircraft goes.

These are all birds the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing flew. Notice a number of them have the distinctive "Sharkmouth" markings.

I had the feeling a Mig-15 was out of place there Smile
The shadow made me feel it was a mid-wing plane, that's why I guessed. Thanks for correcting me.

Maybe thats 'Flying Tiger' park...?? Wink

I seemed to remember a P47, the first flying Tiger 'Wingie-Thingie', but I might be confusing that with the one at the USS Kidd memorial in Baton Rouge.

'CRS' seems to be hitting me harder as time goes by. Rolling Eyes

Don, P-40 Tomahawk, Not P-47 Thunderbolt. I don't know about one in Alexandria, but there is a P-40 at the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge. It was found in a storeroom at LSU Stadium. Believe it had been used to instruct mechanics.
