Preserved Tanks in Italy
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I am taking some time out from working on Fort Knox/BRAC to write up locations and tanks in Italy (with photo's from Massimo) that have been waiting their turn for some time.

First off, the Bari Memorial:

Sacrario Militare dei Caduti d'Oltremare, Bari

Since we are talking about Cecchignola, there are two vehicles I was unable to identify, they sit in an area together with a few prototypes covered by a few years of dust.

Got you an ID on this one.
" The wheeled vehicle was an experimental vehicle from 1957, built by FIAT"

I didnt think Fireflys had rubbertracks?

Those were pretty useless in the snow.

Hi Trevor! Hi Folks!

- TrevorLarkum

- Roy_A_Lingle

...is listed as a M4 (105) Sherman is not a 105 assault gun. It is a M4A2 or M4A3 (Wet) 75mm gun vehicle.

Roy, the text says it's a 105mm hull and turret fitted with a 75mm gun - can you see something that contradicts this?

Unique ID 1065: Bologna Sherman

I was going by the type of main gun, spacing of the bogies and the one picture which made me think it was an A2 or A3.
Now that I have seen the Unique ID web page, I understand why they are calling it a 105.

Don't mind me, one again, I am confuzed by the Sherman tank!
Sgt, Scouts Out!

Looks like we found another Sherman used as a monument inside a barrack. This is in Salerno and wasn't listed on Ferrea Mole website. You can see it on Google Maps:
maps.google.ch/maps/ms...1b198d034f

Should have a cast hull

A new entry - a StuG at Castiglion Fiorentino. This one has some history to it, which always makes the write-up and mapping more interesting, plus there's a range of photo's over many years (for very old photos click on the links on the StuG's profile page):

Piazzale Garibaldi, Castiglion Fiorentino, Arezzo

Thanks for helping the world remember this tank's true ‘Cookie’ identity!
