Philadelphia archives Sherman photo
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Philadelphia archives Sherman photo

Joe DeMarco emailed me this photo today. He said "Said to be Baldwin Locomotive. If so, reckon they would be the M4A2s.
They may have the odd lifting ring such as you found on S/N 1940.
Also note they have M3 bogies, which is kind of surprising.

The person who posted this said it came from the Philadelphia Archives.
I wouldn't mind seeing a better quality scan of this since the lead tank may have a readable USA Number."

Would it be possible to find this photo in better quality? This would help to see the front lifting rings and the USA number painted at the back. Thanks for any help :

P-O

Hi Folks! Hi P-O!

The odds of seeing a USA number on an early WWII vehicle is almost impossible in a black and white photo of that time period.

The use of flat/light blue paint blends into the OD in a black and white photo.

My understanding of early 1940s opsec.
Sgt, Scouts out!
