Post subject: Another Linux OS to check out!

The Linux world is full of different disto's and each one has their own good and bad points, but here's a newbie on the market that's worth taking a look at. Wink

Based on Debian (my personal choice), this distro uses "Enlightenment" as their desktop evironment. While not as popular as Gnome or KDE, the author claims this is one fast and stable desktop os.

Distribution main features:

Debian based: Elive is a distribution based on the well known Debian, Etch branch providing recent packages and stability at the same time. Elive packages take place of the Debian packages if needed (about 180 packages have been added or customized.) For now the liveCD mode is built on Morphix, we hope to move to another system in the future to support more features like serial ATA.

Enlightenment powered: The Enlightenment window manager provides a desktop featuring a fast and light but very flexible and eye candy-filled environment, preserving all the necessary resources to run your day to day applications. Elive includes E16 (for speed and stability) and an E17 cvs snapshot (regulary updated through Elive's repository) as well as most of the programs built on top of the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries.

Elive aims to be a confortable and easy Linux system (with high customization possibilities) but providing a maximum of power and speed to the experienced user. In a full preconfigured environment, user friendly tools are centralized in an original control panel to manage your system (Elpanel.)

More features:

* Two independant systems for liveCD mode and installed mode (improves system stability.)
* Ability to install any package through apt or synaptic in liveCD mode! (virtual file system UnionFS).
* Fully customized desktop.
* Great hardware detection system.
* Exacting package selection for optimal multimedia, office and development use.
* Fast and stable.
