Wildflecken Fotos Needed!!
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Wildflecken Fotos Needed!!

Hi!! Back in Germany, a TV production company and a Bundeswehr Veteran's Organization are in the process of creating for local German TV, a documentary recalling the history of the Wildfecken Training Area and a substantial part will recall its use by 7th ATC. I am allowing them to use some 25 images I took while with the 11th ACR in Germany showing tank and scout training at WTA, does anyone else have a desire to help out in this regard? A scan used on the Internet is of insufficient size for the video process, they need either a true photo reprint of the original image or big file scan to disk. Unfortunately, they are not in a position to pay for the images but all people who help out will be acknowledged and, I am sure, we can all get tapes or disks of the final production. It matters not the tank type or year, from M24 to M1A2, as long as it was at WTA, it will be used. Please: no GTA or HTA substitutes or stand ins. Please contact me and I will provide German POCs and further info.

I'd suggest you post in the guestbook and email the webmaster and try to contact Bob Stephanowicz (sp?) over at the Eaglehorse website (they have a section on Wildflecken and maybe can help with original photos):

Hi Bob! ( I half wondered about that possibility, and checked your profile, but it didn't reveal much Wink )

Hello Mark H!! Ref my pix: please go to this site-

www.eaglehorse.org

My fotos plus hundreds of other former 2/11 ACR in Germany trooper donated images can be found in the foto data base and / or posted to the specific pages at the site. The data base is found thru the Update page, then on left select the view data base and have fun.

Please give me a hand in gathering up some good WTA images for this German production.

Bob

Hi Bob,

Are our Freunde in BK putting this together? The guys at the Wildflecken Museum?

I will have to check my old pics - I recall I have some "Wildchicken" shots, but I don't think there are any tanks in them.

Hi Geoff!!

Yes, Hans L of the Wildflecken web site is the big mover but I am working with the usual suspects on this Laughing I think any WTA fotos will work, thought there'd be a bigger response to this. Saw the RR update and it was great! Smile

I was in 2-15INF 3ID from `76-`78 at `Flecken. I've got several pics of my time in Hell, lol. Most are off-duty troops goofing around. Do have some of a German-American day when the BW Recon Bn. station next to us brought over their Luchs for us to check out. Think they'd be interested?

geazergoaler:

I think that I might have some picts of Wildflecken stashed away someplace; I'll see if I can find any, and get them on the scanner. I'm not sure exactly what they'll be like for quality, however: back in the Army times, I thought that I was being smart by having a no-frills camera (a 110). Much to my horror, a couple years ago I opened one of my Germany photo albums and discovered that most of my pictures had faded to the point of being viewed through a heavy fog. In retrospect, I shoulda spent the money on a 35mm, especially given the quantity of photos I took back then.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda . . .

Anyway, I'll have a look to see if any Wildflecken pictures are still viewable. Are they looking for anything specific? The Kaserne? Training? Gunnery?

I'll try to send you a PM also; check your e-mail on this site.
