The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I confess I've always been sceptical about Molotov cocktails. I've heard of some success by the Finns with them and satchel charges, but little else. Does anyone know if a tank in a real battle ever been taken out with one?

The soldier who pulled a bazooka from the trash pile in the You Tube film put a clear plastic blast shield over its forward end, rather like the one commonly strapped onto panzerschrecks. I can't remember ever seeing such bazooka shields before: were they discarded as impractical in combat, or what?

I've wondered about that "blast screen" for the end of the bazooka. It looks pretty flimsy. I'll bet they were issued with the launchers and the GIs probably tossed them as impractical or a pain in the %^&*.

This is a neat video - I didn't know the 37mm had that effect on concrete, etc.

west-front, thanks for those links. So clearly a kill that involved a Molotov, but the tank was already crippled by a mine. Does anyone have anything on a tank actually stopped by the Molotov itself?

No documentation (and I wouldn't be eager to try this, either), but in AIT we were trained on the potential use of (and need to defend against) the use of the traditional Molotov and also a fuel-soaked sandbag (which need not be completely filled, making it lighter and wind-up-and-throwable by the "neck" of the bag) dropped, thrown or placed on the engine grills. Obviously, this kind of expedient is better suited (if you can call it that) in street fights in a city where buildings can be occupied.
