Post subject: "Quad core USELESS for gaming"

WE spoke with many developers including some big names and we learned that they can’t make much sense out of quad or more core CPUs. They confirm that they can put two cores to good use but not much more. The main problem is that the performance is far from scalable.
You have to spend both time and money to resource the programmer to try to make sense out f the dual core CPU. It takes up to a year to optimise the game for more threads and even if you make the perfect job you can count on twenty to thirty percent performance increase, and this is the best case scenario.

Once you start making the multi threaded game you end up making and having the multithreaded bugs as well.

Post subject: Re: "Quad core USELESS for gaming"

I am not sufficently technically sophiscated to confirm or contest the comments made in that article but they seem logical in that when one changes to a greater complexity the difficulty generated may jump to a new plateau so that whilst going to four cores is only doubling the quanity of cores it may make writing programmes that can utilize four several times more difficult than a factor of two over dual core processors. That said, I wonder is it possible to create programmes that run in two core machines efficently ie using both cores and which will treat quad cores as dual cores and run efficently in the two of their four cores, if so software people should not be complaining about quad cores since e.g. their dual core optimized stuff will run fine utilizing the two core of a quad and other two cores can be used by other programmes. The issue is that processor speed has plateaued and there is simply no other choice than multicore in the immediate future.

Best and Warm Regards
