Why would you ever want to disable the control panel in XP you ask? Well, how about if you're an IT person and want to keep the masses out of Control Panel or your kids like playing with the setting only to have you 'fix it' again...lol

Here is an easy way to disable CP...

To disable the Control Panel in Windows XP:

1. Click Start and click Run.
2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK.
3. Within the Group Policy Editor, expand the following: User Configuration | Administrative Settings | Control Panel.
4. In the details pane, double click Prohibit access to the Control Panel.
5. Click Enabled and click OK.

With this setting enabled, users will be unable to start the Control Panel or run any Control Panel items.

very helpful..but I'd just lock myself out of it....like last night I was trying to teach my oldest son about spyware and how things can automatically install themselves on your pc without your knowledge and how he has to be extremely careful about what sites he frequents....during the process of teaching him this valuable lesson what did I do????...got my pc infected with some major spyware that is wreaking havoc as we speak...I have pop-ups going off everywhere...so far I have not been able to stop it and I've used 3 different spyware killers..lol...ahhhh..doncha love it..lol

they stay in your system restore memory.
I find the best way is to do the following;

1) roll back the system restore to before you got it,
2) scan for and delete it
3) disable the system restore (WARNING: doing this will delete ALL you system restore points and you will not be able to undo it)
4) reboot
5) re-enable system restore
6) re-scan.

It should have disappeared as you've cleared it from the system restore memory, where it hides.

Another thing you can do is get the Avast Anti-Virus program. After the initial install, it asks if you want to scan at boot. Say yes and it'll scan the system prior to handing it off to Windows. That allows the program to clean any files it finds without the "This File is in use" issues that some other AV's can't seem to get around.

It's FREE...(My favorite price!)....:D

Definitely, what Shades said!!!!

Had a similar experience on the main sim rig a coupla months ago, by visiting - of ALL things - a website for guitar tablature!! Who woulda thunk it?

The system restore approach was the ONLY way out of it. I didnt have to do all the steps Shades mentions but his approach is likely much more thorough.

Avast! is also pretty good, running it on my kids PC with a wireless connection. Still and all, he somehow managed to acquire a very impressive amount of trojans and malware without telling me about it for a while. I'll say this - Avast did a good job f eventually getting it all cleaned up, although it took SEVERAL passes and boot scans!

Seems I have it under control now, I did rollback the sytem to last weekend, then did a thorough scan & kill with Housecall Trendmicro - That thing is the bomb and to me nothing comes close to it as far as being a thorough scan...and its free!!...everything seems in order so I'm fixed..tha for the help!

Stoopy on another note, Its very difficult finding good guitar tab sites, I've spent years looking and have about 4 of them I really trust, use & like..We need to post some links somewhere, ones that you use & ones that I use..help us both out? where should we put them?

"Oo! Oo!"
*Waves from back of crowd*
"Me too!"

Played for 33 years but last year (14:45, Friday 6th May 2005.... *sigh*) I broke the 3rd finger of my fretting hand and they stuck it back on 5-10 degrees outta rotation.

I call it my Muslim finger now (coz it points to Mecca. heheh).
I can't really play properly any more as I need more time to work the positioning out and physically re-arrange 'em all into 'flightpaths' where the 3rd and 4th don't collide with each other and the 3rd consistently makes it to where I think it's supposed ta be. LOL

That's one of my babies in the background. Gibson LesPaul Standard flame-top. It has the old style 60's neck profile, and the only mod I've made was to replace the nut with a hand-carved ivory one from an old piano key (from pre-restriction times). It's one of only two of this model which was imported into the U.K. I don't know who has the other... yet.
The prettiest one on the line is taken by, and finished in, the Gibson Custom Shop; they take the best one each day and mine has the lil Custom Shop stamp on the rear of the head. Even though I can't play it properly any more, I still enjoy owning it just to look at that lil gold stamp. I haven't sold any of my guitars and don't intend to, even if I can't shred 'em no more. heheh
.

Hadn't thought of sitting down and trying with tab in front of me but I'm back to practice levels and it might solve a few speed/fluency issues for me and, maybe, eventually, enable me to get back to something approaching normality.

'Specially if they have Bushy prices. Mr. Green

OUCH Shades! That sucks!!!

Did you know Les Paul broke his right arm and the doctors said it was too bad to put back together and had to be 'set' in one position.

He choose a 45 degree angle so he could still play...

I just recently broke out my my acoustic guitar. Someone broke into my house several years back and stole my "Les Paul" and "Alvarez" acoustic. When I told my old playing buddy about it, he found another Alvarez in Texas and sent it to me. It was actually nicer than the one someone stole..lol

AWWW Crap!!! Shades, I am genuinely sorry to hear that. One thing any player hates to think of ever happening. Best of luck rehab'ing your way back to full shred status. Very nice guitar there, and the urge to play it must be intense. Kinda looks like you could get a pretty good stretch there for some uses, but it must be a pain on tight chords. Best wishes for that.

Hangy......I don't know of too many tablature sites at all. I used to use Olga from time to time before 'they' took it down back in the late 90's. Otherwise I just plug along playin' what I've always played or pick apart the old fashioned way. Most of the music I'm into isn't popular enough to get tab created for it...but would sure be interested in the sites you recommend!

Thx guys,
I didn't know that about Les Paul.
One weird guy.
Interesting life, but probably not at the time.
lol

Shades,...Dude...the finger..wow man that hadda hurt..I'm a glass half full kinda guy though and when I look at the way its turned I hafta think "hmmm..what what kinda chords I could reach with this?"..lol..I guess it all depends on the mobility & flexibilty of the finger..by the date on the pics that injury is less than a year old..picking the axe back up again could be about the best exercise and physical therapy you could do for it..just remember, it'll be like learning all over with the added benefit you already know how to play so don't get discourage when that finger doesn't do what you think it outta do!..just keep hammerin away at it..

I'll post some links to my top tab sites somewhere..I guess in the officers club???

Exercise is all I can do with the ole geetars now. But I'm hopeful of getting something back from it one day.
Unfortunately I also dislocated the middle and fourth fingers at the same time. I popped them back in myself while I was waiting for the ambulance but it means I've lost all the lateral extension in the fourth finger so it's impossible for me to move it out of the way of the broken 3rd on the way to the fretboard.
It's a matter of constant struggle between the two as they are at the moment.
I'm developing some physio-therapy for myself but it's a long-term thing and I have no idea whether any of it will work.
All my surgeons and therapists have said I have done way more than they thought it would be possible for me to do with the break. But I ain't givin up there.

[edit: Just looked at that photo again and it looks 'chopped' after all this time, but I assure you that's a genuine pic and that's the real angle it's been stuck back on at. lolol The knuckle joint has a steel "T" plate holding it together; There are 2 screws either side of the base and NINE(!!!) up the length of that one joint! lolol. I've seen the xRay... it's everso impressive. They even got spacing between the screws. LOL]
