What water setting do you have in the config.ini file? I have noticed that water 1 & 2 are quite blue, while 3, 4 are much darker. Water 1 & 2 also give the better than the later fps. Additionally the video drivers are very sensitive to this sim. I still use the 81.85 on a 6800 GT without problem.

VideoSetupId=3
Water=1
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

Biz thnx for your suggestion, I'll attemp to get into that area, (I'm not very good at that sort of thing) and adjust the settings
I just updated drivers from 84.21 to 6.14.10.9371, ( I thought the new ones were 93. something, I just double checked and thats what it said, is that driver OK ?, same thing with new driver, black water

thanks for your help guys

The last 4 digits indicate the driver installed, therefor you have 93.71 drivers installed. Take a look at this post on SimHq.

I hope when you set the config.ini (just make changes and save file again in notepad)to water=1, you will see the natural colour of water.
