Post subject: Ordnance Museum Artillery - Photobucket album now open

Hello all,
I've been working to organize & open up my photobucket account (I previously had it set as private so you could see individual photos, but not browse).

Specifically I've been working to organize my Ordnance Museum photos, organized along the lines of the museum's own inventory system. Accordingly, I've finished with the "FMAR"s - foreign artillery.

smg.photobucket.com/al...20Weapons/

Enjoy - I'm working on the other major folders - FMCVs, MARs, MCVs - next so I can link to the USA AFV Register, etc.

Neil

Keep in mind its not a complete "list."

1) FMARs (and MARs) include small arms...
2) I dont have pics of some artillery.

He Neil,

nice list, good to see al the equipment that has been collected

Are you interested in some minor corrections Mr. Green

The FMAR25 FlaK 36 is in fact an FlaK 18
Recognizable from the round support plates on the outrigger legs
Also has it the early FlaK 18 single wheel, front carrige

And something that happens using photobucket
There is an picture of the FMAR1008 Heuschrecke IVb 10 Grasshopper, in the FMAR989 Pak 37 folder

Hmm... The Museum claims this is its Flak 18 - do they have it backwards, or are they both 18s?

Fixed the Grasshopper photo - thanks.

He Neil,

I took me some time to find some picture's to explane things
Finally found some picture's of the Aberdeen guns on the SVSM site and Flickr

There are 3 main point to identify the 3 various German type of WW2 FlaK, and there are FlaK 18 / FlaK 36 / FlaK 37

First the FlaK 18
The FlaK 18 consists of the Lafettenkreuz 18 (Crossection platform 18) which carries the gun with the cradle
An quick check to recognize this Lafettenkreuz 18 are the round support plates on the outrigger legs, see picture
svsm.org/gallery/88mm-...n/IMG_3588
There are other points to keep them apart, however that will be to complicated to list them

This type of Lafettenkreuz 18 could only be transported with the SonderAanhanger 201 (Sd Ah 201), also shown in the picture
At the rear is the carrige with the double tires on each side, at the front the carriage has an single tire on each side
The front is part where the draw bar for the tractor is fitted, on the Sd Ah 201 the draw bar could not be changed to the other carriage

So all these features make the FlaK in the folder FMAR25 FlaK 36 an FlaK 18

The FlaK 36, was mounted on the Lafettenkreuz 36
An quick check to recognize this Lafettenkreuz 36 are the square support plates on the outrigger legs, see picture
svsm.org/gallery/88mm-...1/IMG_4511

This type of Lafettenkreuz 36 could only be transported with the SonderAanhanger 202 (Sd Ah 202), also shown in the picture
Both carriage's have the double tires on each side
Also there is no real front or rear carriage, because the carriage's are interchangeable with each other
This Lafettenkreuz 36 was used both on the FlaK 36 and FlaK 37

Well, to make it complicated the gun in your picture is not an FlaK 36, actualy it is an FlaK 37

The main difference between the FlaK 36 and the 37 is the "target predictor"

On the FlaK 36 is should look like this (picture is of an FlaK 36 at the Imperial war museum London)
farm4.static.flickr.co...80ce8e.jpg
The same system was also used on the FlaK 18

On the FlaK 37 it looks like, this
svsm.org/gallery/88mm-...1/IMG_4524
This is what the gun at Aberdeen has

Michel

So does the Museum basically just have the FlaK 18 and Flak 36(37) misidentified?

In other words, FMAR25 is a FlaK 37, and FMAR250 is a Flak 18?

FYI, I just finished the MARs - US artillery:

smg.photobucket.com/al...20Weapons/

Also, I'm going to be renaming the FMAR album descriptions - adding more info - which will change the links...

Yes, most likely the indentification got mixed up over the years
Presuming it has been correct in the past

In other words, FMAR25 is a FlaK 37, and FMAR250 is a Flak 18?

No, the other way around Wink

FMAR25 is the Flak 18

FMAR250 is the FlaK 37

If it's any consolation
An lot of the picture's of the 88's at Aberdeen that can be found on the internet all have the wrong description Mr. Green

I'll have to check my photocopies of the Inventory log - but I suspect this is an original error. Its certainly an error in the Ordnance Museum's Guide CD, and in my excel spreadsheet transcribed from the inventory logs...
