Hey, I have a couple of SR-71's at Edwards from some time back...very cool! I think I got 'em when they had satellite views on Mapquest....

Now how about this one? This aircraft is one of a kind sitting in the Bone Yard. Is it an XB-35? Compare the Google Earth shot I took with a photo from the Northrop archives:

I have two views, and the aircraft are in different positions, so taken at a different time (this spy stuff is so exciting!) Laughing

A B-2 would be, like, the Holy Grail of a sat image search, that's for sure.

I'm wondering, how old some of these images are. I know the one in my neck of the woods is pretty old, theres some development missing. So to go back a couple or few years and find a B-2 out in the open would be pretty lucky!

I know where a couple of B-17's and a B-29 are. Would be cool to make a list and assign "points", LOL! Winter's coming, we'll need something to DO!

Another challenge is looking for aircraft that are airborne near an airport - like on short final approach or just after takeoff. It can be done, but it's tough!

Oh yeah Combat - if that's not an XB-35, then I don't know what else it could be - not very many flying wings (the other twin-prop prototype was much smallerand there are only two - one in the Smithsonian Dulles wing and one at Chino CA). Surely it's not a Horten.....Good yob!

OOoo!! OOOoo!!! Do I win? I want one of my own guitar picks!!!!

When in doubt, check with the manufacturer.........Northrup's Palmdale CA facility...

Was so SHOCKED to see one actually in the open, and excited, I could hardly take the picture....fingers were trembling, logging into photobucket, racing to win the contest!!!!

WOW! What an awesome pic Stoop! Droooooooooooool!

Congrats on that new guitar pick! lol

I think we really may be able to get something going here. You came up with a great idea on the points!

Yup not sure what else it could be either. Gotta be the XB-35. It really is a huge aircraft because (not seen in pic) there are some B-52's nearby and it's as big or bigger than they were. How many of those XB-35's could be around?

I don't know how to set a link up, so I'll just put down coordinates.

F/A-22
34.56.26 N, 117.53.24 W

That airbase is also littered with F-16s, T-38s, B-52s, B-1s, and... whoa, a whole crap load of planes to the south.

No link needed X. What you need to do is save it as a jpeg. Then Go to "Photo Galery" under the "Search" heading in the Com-Central Menu to the left of your screen. After you start your album just right click on the pic, hit properties and copy paste the link to the jpeg in between [img][/img] and your pic will be here.

Sure looks like a match to me!

Anybody have any luck with area 51?

All i see is fuzz! Dont surprise me, i worked on Tonopah Test Range in 1984 to 1986, which is next door to Area 51. And we had to be real careful where we went.

OK I wanna see something REAL rare now....UFO's......I'll settle for classic disc-shaped but prefer the infamous "black triangle"......:D

Here's another challenge - I know where there's a Lockheed Constellation! Found one yet?
