USA (NOW V3.0!), Canada, France and Belgium AFV Registers
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

On a tank run this past week:

We found the M4A3E9 Sherman in Clive, OH at VFW Post 3343 W Maple St, Clyde, OH 43410
N 41 17.806 W 82 59.592

The M4A3(75) & M114 are no longer on display at the 1-107 Armor, Ohio Army National Guard Armory, 4639 Allen Rd, Stow, OH (N41 11.624 81 28.395) - they were in the back of a fenced area not accessible to the public and an M1 Abrams SN D1223 was displayed out front.

The M4A3(75) listed for Newton Falls, OH
Ravenna Arsenal / Ohio Army National Guard Armory, 1440 State Route 534 SW N41 12.339 W80 58.632 is INACCESSIBLE to the public.

The correct SN for the M4A3(75)W Sherman on display in Curwensville, PA at VFW Post 842, 19 River St, Curwensville, PA 16833 is SN 62268. EDIT TO ORIGINAL POST - Kurt L posted that he found SN 48779 on the tow lug. That is a more dependable source than the SN I found on the differential housing, as the differential housing could be swapped from another tank. My mistake in not carefully checking the tow lugs.

Will post photo galleries when I can.

hello, where did you find the serial number on that tank. On the rear tow lugs, or on the front differential housing?

thanks

Hi P-O,

I found the 62268 SN on the differential housing. Kurt L posted that he had found the 48779 SN on the tow lug. I had looked at the lugs and didn't see anything, BUT I checked them quickly and had already found the SN on the differential so I wasn't very careful. Oops.

EDITED my original post to reflect Kurt's info.

Post subject: Re: USA (NOW V3.0!), Canada, France and Belgium AFV Register

I hope this is the right place to post this info – some updates for the U.S. listing on Fort Knox, KY in the US AFV Register v4.3 (that's the latest I could download). Some of this info is doubtless already known, but some is new, as they have been moving around some of the display tanks on post (September 2020). Apparently, the Patton Museum is de-accessioning some of the display tanks to the units on post.

I know this is long, but I felt like it needed a thorough job.

Fort Knox, KY

Brandenburg Station Road Gate – The M60A3 SN 2004A has been moved to Harris Hall, Bldg. 2368, Old Ironsides Avenue, First Army Division East.
Apparently, the M60A1 will also eventually be moved from the Brandenburg Gate.

Bullion Gate – This is now called the Chaffee Gate.
M2 Bradley – this vehicle was moved to the display area outside the Patton Museum.

Chaffee Gate – This area is no longer called the Chaffee Gate, and it is no longer a gate, just West Chaffee Avenue.

Copple Center – There are no longer any vehicles displayed at the Copple Center. The M59 had been moved to the Patton Museum, but it was recently moved to Harris Hall, Bldg. 2368, Old Ironsides Avenue, First Army Division East.

Ireland Army Community Hospital – This M59 was moved to the new Ireland Army Health Clinic (near the hospital), N37.9007, W85.9372.

MATES (Bldg 2858) – These two vehicles are still there, but not out front anymore. They are in the vehicle lot in the back, apparently in the process of being repainted.

Range Targets – There are no M1 Abrams or M2 Bradleys on the ranges or in the impact area. Before I retired I checked all the ranges with hard targets, and I asked Range Control to make sure. Apparently, the vehicles on the listing were used to teach recovery at the Carpenter Test Area, but those vehicles were all removed when the Armor School moved to Fort Benning in 2010.

Add to Range Targets:
Zussmann MOUT Range – Ridge Road, N37.9575, W85.8247 - M60A3, SN C43 JJ030X; M48A1 with M60A2 turret, SN 4599, Reg. 9A8029, "Dragoon 300;" M114 SN 2508 (or 2308); another M114; 2ea M106 mortar carriers.

FBI Range – 7th Armored Division Road, N37.8334, W85.8532 – 3ea M60A3s, one is SN 16 JJ0?05; M47, SN 11765, M59; M48A1 with M60A2 turret, SN 957, Reg. 9A6715.

Hackett Range – 7th Armored Division Road, N37.8326, W85.8602 – 4ea M551s, 4ea M557s, 1ea M60A1, other wrecked junk.

O'Brien Range (this is an old range located on Wilson Road between Heins QTR Range and Garvin Range; it is no longer shown on range maps, but it used to be called O'Brien Range) – Wilson Road, N37.9370, W85.9474) – near the range baseline is an upsidedown M60A2 turret. In the range target area are 6ea M60A3s and 1ea M106 mortar carrier.

Steeles Tank Range – Main Range Road, N37.8674, W85.9023 – The range target area has 2ea M60A3s, an M47 with several large holes in the turret, 2ea M106 mortar carriers, and several demolished hard targets. The far end of the target area has a demolished M41 Walker Bulldog. Beside the range access road is an M103 turret and an M577.

Miller Range – Porter River Road, N37.9346, W85.8838 – 2ea M47 tanks.

Flat Lick Impact Area – N37.8730, W85.8430 – 4ea M60A3 tanks.

Hays Flats Artillery Impact Area (various locations) – 10ea M551 Sheridans, 1ea M103 tank, 5ea M60A1s, 2ea M113 FOV, M4 Sherman hull.
[end of Range Targets entry]

Wilson Road Gate - There is only one M551 Sheridan at the Wilson Road Gate now.

Thanks for the Fort Knox update, I will add them to the register ASAP. BTW the most recent register is version 4.4, you can download it here: www.afvregister.org/Do...%204.4.pdf

Thanks for the updates Geoff,

The Zussman Range M60A3 RN JJ030X should be 043 instead of C43 based on the RN. Early Detroit built A3's led with a zero if the SN was two digits. When rebuilt the zero was usually left off. M60A3 SN 16 at the FBI range should be RN JJ0305 based on that SN.

Thanks Michel, thanks Joe!
Joe, I went back and looked at my photos, and the Zussman M160A3 certainly looks like a C the way it was stamped, but you're right - it should be a 0.
The FBI Range M60A3 is indeed RN JJ0305.

You have to get one of the admins to change it.
Send a private message to Shadow_Bshwackr with the details.

Unfortunately that does not change the email associated to your account JiriTintera. It only creates a Fake email that is visible to everyone logged into the site but it does not allow you to recover your account if you forget your password.

I created this Fake email as a goof quite some time ago.

Code:
notgonnahappen@12tribes_of_kobal.com

At this time the only way to change the email associated to your account is to have an Administrator change it for you.
