Post subject: The JFK Memorial (photo's warning)

Thought some of you might be interested in this.
I've mentioned it before in other threads, but took some pictures of it myself today (cheering myself up after I sold my bike).
There is an acre of land, near where I live, given to the American people as a memorial to President John F. Kennedy after his assassination in 1963.
I'm always disappointed that it's not better known about in the U.S.A.

These are some images to show what it looks like, where it's situated and what it's for.
There's an extra photo at the end for you to identify.

Overlooking the memorial, with the Young Thames and Heathrow Airport in the background.

And your 'Quiz-of-the-week' question; What's the building in the next photo, which overlooks Runnymede and the JFK Memorial?

Demmit!
Point to Mr Smart.
I'll have to make next one harder.
Wink

The memorial commemorates 20,000 airmen and airwomen of the Commonwealth Air Forces who, during the 1939-1945 War, died over north-western and central Europe, the British Isles, and the eastern Atlantic, while in any of the Air Forces Commands, and have no known grave.

All of those recorded have no known grave anywhere in the world, and many were lost without trace. The name of each of these airmen and airwomen is engraved into the stone walls of the memorial, according to country and squadron.

Google Maps is your friend.

20,000 with no known grave, sobering. Sad

www.ww1cemeteries.com/...morial.htm

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...s_Memorial

We have the 'Tomb of the Unknown' This is somewhat the opposite. We know their names but not where they lay.

Thanks for bring it to our attention.
