Post subject: G-Mail...is Google taking over?

I've been lucky enough to have been a GMail user for quite a while now and have seen them rise from a small upstart to what they are today. How does a 3 gig mail box sound to you and now, they're offering Virus Scanning for your mail, something the "other BIG guys" have been doing...

Take a look at this...:D

Gmail, the free Web-based e-mail service from Google, now scans e-mail to detect and remove viruses.

Each time you send and receive attachments, Gmail automatically scans them for viruses.

If a virus is found in an attachment you've received, our system will attempt to remove it, or clean the file, so you can still access the information it contains. If the virus can't be removed from the file, you won't be able to download it.

If a virus is found in an attachment you're trying to send, you won't be able to send the message until you remove the attachment.

Other free e-mail services like Hotmail and Yahoo Mail also scan for viruses, but they use anti-virus technology licensed from other companies. The Gmail anti-virus solution appears to be something homegrown at Google HQ.
