Anyone have experience of any [free] software for converting .wmv movies to .avi format?

I've tried various Google suggestions (including Blaze Media Pro) but everything seems to only convert the audio and loses the video.

I am trying to convert a movie I took of of my CO's band for his website.
Audio's very nice, but not really the point of filming it.
