Post subject: Cleaning out IL2/PF to Improve Performance

It is only recently that I was made aware that this sim (and there may be other games or programs also) requires maintenance to clean up cache files that collect over time. IL2 has these left over files in two directories. After manually deleting all of the files in the IL2/paintschemes/net cache and mission/net/cache I was surprised how much faster the game actually ran. Thousands of files were deleted, as I had not done this since the game was installed two years ago This also freed additional disk space.

The next thought, was to automate the process so that it would be cleaned regularly with the rest of the computer.

Many of us have been using a free program called CCleaner
( www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp ) for cleaning the system and applications. The cleaning of IL2 is easy to add in this program by assigning the folders in the options, custom settings, then ticking the custom files in the advanced cleaner section.

By running the cleaner weekly, I will no longer have to look to see how many files are building up in the game.

I wasnt too worried about the 50 meg i had in each of those two places.. But of checking in C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\PaintSchemes\Cache I found near a gig (935 meg) of extras in there... I think they come in this folder in single player mode as well ...And yes FB runs smoother upon removal of em..Thnx for the hint I freed up over 1.2 gb total WOW !

Deleted 998 files worth almost 500 MB from Paint Schemes NetCache. The Missions/Net/Cache was only 11 MB so I left it alone. Some scary faces in those files, I think I recognized a few from Dateline NBC's recent documentary.
