Neat video from 1967. I couldn't recreate all that sand in the downloadable version here at C-C, and my version is ca. 1971, so the revetted areas are much more built up than depicted here. At the end of the clip is the tower, apron and "terminal" next to the official tower. Captured that pretty well, looking back at it.

I have some doubts about the one comment posted there. Phu Bai was only ~6,000 feet long during the war, and was generally unlighted (and you'd never be deplaning on the runway from a large fixed-wing, even back in '67). If an F-4 landed there, it was a balls out emergency since high performance aircraft never operated from Phu Bai (Da Nang was only about 30 miles away). I suspect a case of mistaken aircraft identity (a VNAF F-5 could have landed Phu Bai in a pinch, but it would have been risky at night) or a touch of soldierly mis-recall.
