Fermanagh County Council Should have large scale maps for the airfields in the district, if you get in touch with them, I think it would a good idea to mention the tourist potential of simming Castle Archdale particularly in the United States given the Catalina was flown by a US Navy pilot.

Nelson, It would be a good idea get in touch with the Northern Ireland tourist board and tell them about the project, [ if you decide to go ahead with it ]

Another good contact would be the US Defence Attache at the US Embassy in London.

www.usembassy.org.uk/dao/index.html

ie the important issue that aircraft was an American aircraft flown by a US Navy pilot prior to Pearl Harbour and America's formal entry in to the War that spotted the Bismarck, which has obviously echoes today in the post 9/11 situation.

The Bismarck

www.kbismarck.com/

The Bismarck is Located.

A few hours earlier, at 0300, two Coastal Command Catalina flying boats had taken off from Lough Erne in Northern Ireland on a reconnaissance mission in search for the Bismarck. At about 1010, Catalina Z of 209 Squadron commanded by Dennis Briggs sighted the German battleship that immediately answered with very accurate anti-aircraft fire.5 The Catalina jettisoned her four depth charges and took evasive action after her hull was holed by shrapnel. Then reported: "One battleship, bearing 240º, distance 5 miles, course 150º. My position 49º 33' North, 21º 47' West. Time of transmission 1030/26." After more than 31 hours since the contact was broken, the Bismarck had been located again. Unfortunately for the British, however, Admiral Tovey's ships were too far away from the German battleship. The King George V was 135 miles to the north, and the Rodney (with a top speed of 21 knots) was 125 miles to the northeast. They would never catch up with the Bismarck unless her speed could be seriously reduced.

Hi Adrian, thanks for the compliment, good of you.
Yes Castle Archdale looks good, be nice to see AI catalinas taking off, maybe a static Sunderland III on the water?

Nelson if you are thinking of recreating the most famous scenario associated with Castle Archdale [ ie the sinking of the Bismarck ], as best as I can see the Sunderland flying boats were not used till later and if I am right on that perhaps static Catalinas and AI Catalinas would be more appropiate, than a Sunderland.

Hi Adrian, I guess you're pretty keen on this project. Smile
I will give it a go, first step is getting a good layout of the airfield and also runway headings, lengh, width, markings, airfield elevation. NDB and tower frequencies etc.
All help appreciated.
Yes that would make sense with the static aircraft.
There is a way of making water runways, I'll have to look into it.
When I get it finished perhaps you can do a good write-up with photos about the Bismark link for the readme?
Got to go out today but maybe will start looking into it tonight ok.
Thanks for digging all that info up.
Regards
Dave

***HELP****
Can anyone do me a big favor and download Usworth V1.1 from flightsim or avsim and check for these missing textures please. I went on it tonight and was horrified to see the tower and the four cottages behind the airfield missing. Tell me if they are missing from your download please.
It might be because I installed VFR scenery then uninstalled it again, tried re-installing Usworthv1.1, nothing, think possibly the default Small_tower2 and cob_cottage texures have been deleted somehow?
Thanks for your help
Regards
Dave
