Post subject: "No Guts No Glory" (NGNG) Competition Aircraft

'Cause Fr8ycat was askin' about 'em and IMS_Dakota is tellin' us about 'em, here's the skinny on the "No Guts No Glory" (NGNG) Competition aircraft for CFS3:

These are basically repaints of the popular, stock aircraft for CFS3, and the idea was born out of an interest to expedite 100% full-realism games to a degree by making aircraft a little easier to spot...because with no labels, TAC, padlock or anything else, you could literally spend hours in a 100% game flying around and looking for bogies. Credit, I believe, originally goes back to STS_Predator and FOE_Pappy and their respective squads who championed this idea and came up with the first set of repaints.

Each aircraft is re-done in two day-glo colors, yellow and green, two colors being needed to support Team dogfights. I don't recall what (or if) any standard was for each color - if Green was Allied and Yellow Axis, or vice-versa. If a 100% Team Dogfight is hosted, obviously the color assignments need to be stated up front to keep people from joining with the wrong color and getting shot by their teammates.

I believe we used to host the original download here as well as other places, but IMS_Dakota says the textures were recently updated and to avoid Aircraft Mismatch issues in multiplayer, the latest set should be downloaded, which Dakota has uploaded over at sim-outhouse..here's the link:

NGNG Competition Aircraft

And you'd want these if there are going to be NGNG dogfights showing up on GameRanger, which I for one would love to see. 100% of course, since using TAC and tags would really defeat the purpose of these repaints.

Installation is pretty straightforward, Unzip the file and copy all the "Yellow" and "Green" aircraft folders over to your CFS3 "Aircraft" folder, that's it.

Samples of what they look like: Notice that (aside from the flames and debris, always a good sight) the yellow spit and green Bf109 stand out pretty well and so can be spotted much more easily at distance:

...and..Thank You again, Dakota!

True, but I think the textures are now changed slightly? Which would lead to the annoying mismatch errors in CFS3. Maybe Dakota would be so kind as to refresh our upload here as well???? Whattaya say Dak?

Yeah it would be nice to have our originals updated. Hate having an original, yet outdated, file.

JG300-Fr8ycat and I tried 'em out in GameRanger tonight and had QUITE a nice Brouhaha goin'!!!! 4 players in all, and we kept the action over the airfield, more or less, and man the adrenaline really gets pumping in a 100% game! WOOOHOOO!!!!!!

Props to fr8ycat who didn't to too dang bad at all for his first time out!!!

Yea was great fun. The NGNG 100% games are a whole new realm. Would be especially cool with teams.

This GameRanger is awesome and not sure how long it's been around but seems like more CFS3 fans would be jumping on.

I sure as heck agree on both counts.

GameRanger is relatively new at least for CFS3 support, it began last month and needed some tweaking but they've sure as heck got it right now. Since getting it installed and set up right I've had zero issues (and I've watched carefully) and it's stable as a rock. After all this time of not having a free no-strings-attached server to play on, we now have one, with a lobby feature at that.... go figure???

There will be no mis-matches if you try and use the old NGNG aircraft.
They just don't look as nice. I repainted them so that the wing stripes etc show through. That way you can "customise" your plane and also help tell your wingmen apart. Enjoy!

Oh. almost forgot, CC used to have my updater available here to update the original files.

Hmmmm, there is a lobby type server for CFS3? Gameranger is it? Might see some RAAF453rd in there before long, I know 3 of us have it...
