Most likely the R stands for Rohrnumber ( barrel number )
But I can't 100 % prove this

Do we have a way to differentiate 8,8 cm guns build in Spain under license from guns build in Germany?

Normaly they have no R-number but often it says No.256 for instance and the year will be up to in the 1950's
