The Dutch consumers association has put the thumbscrews on M$ as to many PC's that where delivered with the "Ultimate Vista OS" wern't bringing what was promised,
so now on behalf of the slightly "annoyed" customers they are giving M$ an option.

Wich is a good thing, this so M$ maybe thinks twice before releasing a "New Super OS"

So we will have to wait and see what will happen, but they won't let 'm of the hook I can tell ya Laughing Wink

A handy tip for my Yuropean friends (even if they're not on "the continent" *ahem*)...a phrase that came in handy here at Casa de Ascout on recent computer purchases (eight and two months ago) was "It's XP or it's no sale". That had a way of ending discussion of the many virtues, "features and benefits" and compelling reasons why I really should consider a Vista-equipped machine. The first time, I introduced this phrase into the conversation after about five minutes, the second time, in the first fifteen seconds. Both times, the same results did obtain. Wink

I would have done this before many of the horror stories rampant now, for (as Stoopy can confirm), the Ascoutster is not on the leading edge of technologies and prefers the proven and refined high-mileage vintage versions of anything (that ain't actually breathing).

yup right frazing, I like it and must admit I've used it as well before you mentioned it here

friend got also almost suckered into the "Vista" hipe, but luckely enough he was close but not caught, I redirected him to my local putershop and for less money he even got away with a better system running XPsp2 and all the parafanalia, he's a happy "customer" now

p.s. personally I'll hold my horses for the moment to acquire a new system, to many issues with the Vidcards, DX10 etc etc, so I'll baid my time till april/may coming year Wink and yes, it will be with XP OS ....... Laughing

Lots of the pre-builders have now acceded to buyers requirements for XP.
And also Linux is now being offered as an option these days as well.

Surely M$ must see these little signs and think, "Hmm maybe we better not try this one again".
But we said it before, and we'll prolly say it again in another couple a years.

No M$ will not. They have gotten away with releasing buggy programs each and every time they have released a new OS.

Until people stop lining up the day before the release date of a new OS, until people stop buying out most stores within the first few days, and start waiting for outside reviews to come out, M$ will keep doing this because they hook people on the new system and they make money.

Then manufacturers load up the computer with BS software that makes the CPU crawl, and then the customer feels like they've been ripped off when they have a slow computer with no Word or useful applications.

No, my point is, it DOESN'T, or doesn't need to. When the consumer is prepared to tell the vendor "I want a computer and am prepared to buy today, but will not accept it with Vista installed" (and isn't bluffing) and hoofs it to the door when the store or vendor can't (or won't) deliver one, then that store or vendor will darn quickly be on the horn to somebody about lost sales and screaming for systems with XP available. This is exactly what has happened...it just took more people prepared to do exactly what I advocated (and did). It's called "voting with your pocketbook". More consumers need to learn to exercise their right to vote. This right was available to the business unit of the major vendors all along, they just pushed "home sales" harder to shove Vista out the door, and the home users accepted it.

Who's fault was that? Wink

I definitely know where you are coming from...

The problem is...a lot of people are not familiar enough with computers to know that Vista has a whole lot of problems compared to XP. So when they hear Vista, they're like "that's the new thing! We should get that!"

Another problem with the vendors that really doesn't depend on the OS is the software they install. They slap a ton of software on the system that starts up when Windows starts up. The computer runs slow because it is choking for resources and overall the customer is still wondering how this computer was supposed to be faster.

And you're totally right, Ascout. People need to be vigilant when it comes to voting with your wallet, but they need to be informed. As long as people are buying junk, companies will sell junk.
