Post subject: Wndows service pack 3

Windows service pack 3 was released in April 2008 and after reading several reports it seems to have brought a series of problems for some users.

A couple of links below will give you a flavour of what’s involved with SP3

Review 1

Review 2

I have installed SP3 onto my laptop (Toshiba, Intel cpu, XP Home Edition) and as yet have had no problems and the install went quite smooth. If it continues in a stable manor then I’ll upgrade my main PC (Intel cpu, XP Pro) and the web server (AMD cpu, XP Pro).

Updates to SP3 can be done by the normal Windows upgrade path or using the network install to upgrade several computers.

I downloaded the network install of SP3 (a full patch) as I have 3 computers to upgrade, I also intend to use my Windows CD (SP2) and ‘slipstream’ SP3 onto it.

Here’s the link to the ‘Stand Alone’ version of SP3, you don’t need WGA to download it nor do you need your COA to install it.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.

As with any install/upgrade/patch, please backup any and all data before hand.

Thanks for the heads up Kit ...

I've also installed SP3 on all my XP machines... (All are running XP Pro with Intel Processors) and everything seems to working as intended. Wink

I've installed SP3 and I had to wait a lil longer till the localized Dutch version was available.

What I've have noticed is a increase in speed dealing with various proggies and a noticable increase in FPS with fsX.

Works a treat at this end
