Fantasy Race (Totally Out There !!)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Fantasy Race (Totally Out There !!)

After watching the F1 race and waiting for the Kansas NASCAR race, I got an amazing idea for a true AFV related fantasy race.

First Race: 'Daytona International Speedway(50 mile race)
(Pack racing on an oval at its finest...)

Second Race: ?? (suggestions?)
('Road course'/ European Track??)

National Entries:
United States - M1A2
United States - M1A1
Britain - Challanger 2
Germany - Leo 2A4
Holland - Leo 2A6
Canada - Leo 1A4 (or better?)
Russia - T90 (?)

(Additional entries suggestion??)

Rules:
-Two wide standing start (AKA F-1 starts)
-Start position based on 1 lap time trials
-Multiple National entires allowed but must be different variant of MBT.
-National entries must be from 'fielded military inventory'
-World Champion determined by combined scores of both races.

Did I mention this is really out there.....

Regards
Don

Full combat load or stripped for racing? Drafting allowed? Smile Rolling Eyes

A long time ago I was in the woods at Bergen, Germany, still with my faithfull Leo2A4 tried to convince a British tankcommander with a Challenger 1 to do a little racing to see who was faster. Unfortunately he didn't Mr. Green

With an A5 or A6 I wouldn't do that sort of things...

Tanklord

Basic load (ie noncombat) (NO AMMO ALLOWED....!!) Mr. Green

Lesley

I much prefer some of my 'old' tried & true (analog)IPM-1's & M1A1's over the M1A2, so I totally understand...

additional national entry

- France with the AMX-56 LECLERC
- Japan with the Type 90 and/or Type 10
- Israel with the Merkava
- Canada is bringing the Leo 2A4M CAN
- Chinese Type 99

suggestion, shrink to 2 vehicles for each country maximum
because I think there is still a lot of old stuff still going round in "fielded military inventory"

I saw that when watching the race and thought that was an awful ratty looking tank for a public display at such a big event. Paint obviously chipping away, green over tan with a second shade of green to touch up

Tanks and TD's take their place on the grid at Monza. No word on whether they used the parabolica or not. Wink

Bob

I thought the same thing. Having participated in a number of 'Dog & Pony' events (ie public exhibitions), I was abit taken back that they used a 'less thean perfect' tank.

Perhaps the only operational tank available from their onhand stock at a MATE Site (ie 'Float Tank').

In 2011, a Dutch Leopard was displayed at the site of the Army Run in Ottawa. Just about the only Canadian markings were the CFR plates and no Dutch flags. The crew said it was the only tank available.

Soon there will be more, and Canada will be able to participate in this race with the Leo 2A6.

Holland will no longer be able to book in the race with any tanks, we have struck them all off charge.

I read a article somewhere there will be 1 Leo remaining
They want to keep it for driver training for the DAF TROPCO 650kN tank transporters.

So there is still a small chance Wink

I'd chose the Panther II, but drop off the mine roller and mount. That leaves you with a turretless M1IP. I bet that thing would haul @ss.
