Berlin Brigade Web Site
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Nice site Mark,

Enjoyed looking at the different time lines but didn't see any M60A3 pics, so here's a couple of my personal ones from Graf, FEB 1986. We did a gunnery with them (3-12 CAV 3AD). They look even prettier in person.

And yes, it was one cold SOB that gunnery.

I have a pic (somewhere) of a 3/12 Cav M60 shooting TT 8A, while 'we' (4/32 Ar) watched in our newly drawn M1A1's at Rg 117 in Graf (1988). Gotta dig tha one up, I guess.

I'd like to see that one,

Be a hoot if it was one of my old tanks, A-36, SN 1020, or A-38, SN 998.

Dang, guys:

Just the words "Berlin Brigade" got me all fired up in 1962 to enlist in the US Army and sign up for Armor, Europe! Vroom, vroom, BLAM!

Never got to Berlin, but spent three years in Kaiserslautern babysitting the Second AD replica in case they ever needed them. Operation Big Lift came in '64, and 2nd AD tore the living crap out of our rolling stock, and I got chewed out by none other than Gen. Creighton Abrams for crapping in an "Officers Only" latrine. I had my field jacket hanging over the door, and he saw the enlisted stripes on the sleeve, and called out, "What the hell are you doing in here? Can't you read? This is Officers Only!"

I thought I recognized ol' Sgt Maynard's voice, and called out, "Hell, Sarge, if I could read, they'da let me in the friggin' Navy!"

Wow. He let me off by polishing his very ornate General's belt buckle. When I was done, and presented the shiny, spotless buckle to him, he accused me of shining it with a $(&^%()%*^% Hershey bar....

HA HA HA,....Thats great!!

In Jan 1989, 'We' were at range 301 (Graf). Being in the 1989 3rd AD Cat Team, you'd expect us to have access to unlimited ammo, for live fire, during the train up period.

Unfortunately at the same time, all 120mm training ammo had been pulled due to reliability problems. So we conducted long range gunnery with 'telfare' and brewster devices. (sub-cal training devices).

This became more of a simulated mortar shoot since the ranges we were firing induced heavenly oriented super elevation. Evil or Very Mad The burst on target became an excercise in pain as one could literally have a smoke, prepare some coffee on the back deck, take a power nap, and then observe the barely visible impact, Shocked if it didn't get stuck in orbit..... Mr. Green ( Well it seemed like it....)

Hearing of the frustrations in training, the 11th ACR Cmdr flew in to see if HE could assist in a problem solution. (The entire armor force seemed to get dailey info updates, due to problems incurred with the M1A1 and the Ammo.)

The 11th ACR commander was none other than Col "Son of Tank" Abrams. He landed his Huey near my tank, during a lengthy 'cease fire', so we approached the chopper with all the 11th ACR cheesed up markings.

Before anybody could get the wiser, I 'tagged' the Cmdrs Chopper with a 3rd AD CAT 89 sticker.

Never did hear anything about it, thought.

Regards
Don
